Capital Region Patient Care Associate (Clinics)

Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties. Performs general receptionist, clerical, and accounting duties, including rooming patients, taking vital signs, performing approved technical skills, maintaining equipment, stock levels and supplies.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Greets patients and/or family/guardians and ascertains their needs, and/or recording medical history, and documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Brings patients to the exam room.
• Prepares the patient for the physician/provider exam.
• Schedules patients for follow-up appointment(s) after the exam.
• Assists patients as appropriate.
• Provide examination gowns and drapes, positioning patients for examination and/or treatment, arrange examining room instruments, supplies and equipment.
• Support care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations, preparing lab specimens, performing basic lab tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, preparing patients for x-rays, taking electrocardiograms; changing dressings, remove IVs, point of care glucose testing, and maintain quality control checks.
• Reports maintenance, repairs instruments and equipment to the clinic manager and maintaining stock levels.
• May be required to make pre-authorizations, confirmation calls and/or reschedule appointments.
• Works utilizing universal infections control techniques. Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
• Complies with OSHA and JCAHO regulations, Right to Know policies and disposal of hazardous waste policies.
• Utilized proper techniques in disposal of sharps, handling of infectious waste and handling of materials.
• Assists in maintaining proper inventory of medical and pharmaceutical supplies. Stocks exam/procedure rooms as appropriate.
• Checks for outdated/expired medications and supplies and provides report to clinic manager.
• May be required to float to other clinics as deemed necessary to help cover staff shortages and/or train new incoming staff. Any other job duties as assigned.
• NOTE: This role will Not administer medications.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Healthcare experience or training preferred.
