Hours: Flexible, but generally 12:00pm 8:30pm, Monday - Friday
Wage: Regular hourly wage negotiable dependent on demonstrated experience, plus lead differential of $1.25 added during Lead shifts (at least 20 hours of the week)

Our Floating Captioning Leads transcribe, edit, fact-check, and apply various writing and network styles to closed captioning and subtitling files for network television, streaming services, corporate, web, and other prerecorded video content part of the week and assist supervisory staff with leading the team the other portion of the week. Our team makes dialogue, music, and sound effects accessible to the Deaf and hard of hearing audience, in addition to the millions of Americans who prefer to watch video content with captions and subtitles turned on.

The Role
The Floating Lead role requires: previous experience as a Caption Editor/Captioner/Timed Text Operator/Transcriber in a media production company. Willingness and ability to lead others; assist in scheduling, client communication, and staff training. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete production and administrative tasks amid distractions and interruptions. Customer service-oriented communication skills and approachability a plus. Previous leadership experience is not requiredthis role is designed to help grow those skills and set you on a path beyond standard caption editing.
A BA or BS degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, TV/Film Production, or Linguistics is helpful for this role, but dont sweat it if you dont have one. Were more interested in your skill set and natural abilities.
The Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversight of Caption Editors on designated Lead shifts
- Provide production and administrative support to California Production Manager
- Effective troubleshooting to ensure staffs work is completed as scheduled, including assistance with videos and files and rearranging schedules as necessary due to project issues or absences.
- Use of Ooona Translation Manager to monitor staff and (re)schedule resources as necessary to ensure timely completion of tasks as indicated by internal deadlines.
- Work closely with project management and coordination teams to ensure client and scheduling needs are met.
- Client communication and response as needed, including email, fielding phone calls, and delivering files.
- Assist production supervisors and leads with performance goals and training of Caption Editors as required.
- Assist with departmental initiatives as assigned.
- Handling last-minute captioning jobs and revisions.
- Perform Caption Editor duties at appropriate tier level when not performing Lead duties.
