Job Posting for Data Analyst at Capture Higher Ed

Capture is looking for a Data Analyst who can turn data into insights and enjoys turning inefficiencies into clear, clean, and reproducible processes.

The Data Analyst is a client-facing role, requiring the ability to discuss technical topics with stakeholders with a variety of technological know-how. These conversations require the analyst to have a firm understanding of the higher education admissions enrollment lifecycle.

The Data Analyst will find success by helping partner institutions transfer consistent, accurate data to Capture, and by proactively detecting and communicating irregularities when they arise, to help them achieve their defined enrollment goals.

This position will work within the Data Services team, a team of curious Data Analysts and Data Scientists who love asking interesting questions and using data to find answers to help our clients meet their defined enrollment goals.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The Data Analyst will have responsibilities across two main spheres of work – both data management and exchange:

  • Helping partner institutions transfer consistent, accurate data to Capture.
  • Understanding that every partner is different and taking that context to tie it back to how our system/BIP works
  • Working with internal stakeholders to understand and fix data irregularities.
  • Completing time-sensitive service-related tasks for partner institutions with a sense of urgency.
  • Working within, and improving upon, existing data governance structure.
  • Ensuring Quality Control with excessive attentiveness to detail, accuracy, and reproducibility.
  • Continually learning and improving data analysis and programming skills.
  • Optimizing processes and helping to make Capture more effective and more efficient.

Predictive Modeling Management and Data Analysis:

  • Working closely with the lead Data Scientist to collect necessary data and build predictive and machine learning models using an existing code base.
  • Managing the releases of periodic iterations to models that have been launched.
  • Communicating with partner stakeholders to ensure data delivery for models and analysis is on time and sufficient for our needs.
  • Performing routine analytical functions to answer both internal and external questions about performance, optimization, and general data trends.
  • Working with the existing business intelligence platform to ensure data insights are accurate and relevant.
  • Communicating complex findings and results to a less technical audience on a regular basis.

Required Technical Skills

  • Two (2) years of experience working with structured data in relational databases
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in a data-related field, or equivalent
  • Intermediate to Advanced Proficiency in SQL (any version, but MySQL preferred)
  • Experience with R or Python is a must
  • Having previously served as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), training your mind to think in a particular way that is beneficial for the work we do.
  • Understanding that flexibility to create custom solutions is critical
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to multiple audiences (including non-technical audiences)

The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  • Superb organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and work between multiple ongoing projects.
  • Extreme level of comfort with processes and the ability to optimize processes for efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Elevated level of comfort communicating with partner institutions and internal stakeholders.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Obsession with using technology to optimize processes.
