Financial Aid Counselor or Senior Financial Aid Counselor
Overview: Cardinal Stritch University is currently seeking a qualified candidate for our Financial Aid department. The Financial Aid Counselor or the Senior Financial Aid Counselor is a key position in the Financial Aid Office. They play an important role in ensuring that students are awarded aid and are informed of their options and financial obligations in a timely and friendly manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
- Develop and maintain a mastery of the application process for all Federal, State, and Institutional Aid.
- Work with prospective and returning students and their families to assist them with these applications and educate them on the process. Ensuring that all documents and applications we need from them are turned into our office.
- Develop and maintain a mastery of the awarding process and rules that governs Federal, State, and Institutional Aid.
- Package (and revise when necessary) students according to these rules.
- Educate students on these packaged award offers.
- Develop and maintain a mastery of the Federal verification process for FAFSA data.
- Perform that verification process for the students that require it.
- Serve as a Student Service representative at our Front Window.
- Helping student walk-ins with their questions and/or making appointments with the necessary staff member that can assist them with their questions.
- Update and Maintain our website presence for accuracy, compliance and student-centered content.
- Perform the SAP process at the end of each term and work with student that need to appeal.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelors Degree
- At least 3 years of experience in a Financial Aid office
Language Skills:
- Strong verbal and superior written communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
- Ability to effectively interact in all situations with faculty, staff and other University stakeholders
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts
- Ability to use a calculator
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to manage stress with multiple competing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude and affect.
- High energy level, self-motivated, and self-directed to design and complete complex projects.
- Skilled in independent decision-making and critical thinking
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
Computer Skills:
- Working knowledge of all of the Federal Student Aid Systems
- Mastery working with PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar software systems
Other Qualifications:
- Strong Attention to Detail
- The ability to adapt to change quickly
