As the Director of Risk Management, you will develop, implement, and direct the risk management program for the organization and support a safe environment for the protection of our residents and team members.
Responsibilities as the Director of Risk Management at Care Initiatives include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and manage a risk management program that identifies, analyzes, and mitigates risks to residents, patients, tenants, visitors, and employees.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, reference materials, training programs, reports, and metrics related to risk management.
- Investigate and develop event timelines related to resident, visitor, and employee safety events; Assist with development of associated risk education, improvement plans, and risk mitigation activity.
- Manage the company’s self-insured workers’ compensation and safety programs. Work in this area includes the following: Overseeing the third-party claims administrator and overall claims and return to work processes; Developing and implementing processes and procedures to improve efficiency, organization, and communication with stakeholders; Providing guidance to location leaders related to workplace incidents and safety; Ensuring overall company compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Assist with the management of the corporate property & casualty insurance program.
- Further emergency response and business continuity efforts of the organization.
- This position offers flexible scheduling: ability to serve out of our Home Office in West Des Moines, remote, and/or hybrid. There will be infrequent travel within Care Initiatives umbrella. Expectations include onsite within our Skilled Nursing Facilities, Home Office, IT office, or Hospice offices; coverage area is state of Iowa with one hospice location in Omaha, Nebraska.
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Degree in healthcare related field preferred.
- Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Healthcare risk management and safety experience, along with strong clinical knowledge such as serving as a nurse or in another clinical role, is preferred.
- Experience with self-insured workers’ compensation insurance programs and OSHA is preferred.
- Experience working in long term care / post-acute care is highly preferred.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, coupled with strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
- Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight.
- Excellent writing and analytical thinking skills, including the ability to identify and define problems, collect information, analyze data, establish facts, make recommendations, and implement solutions.
- Ability to present complex information to all levels of the organization and external constituents.
