Job Purpose
The HIV/STI Prevention Specialist is responsible for the implementation of HIV/STI testing, education and prevention programs to high-risk individuals including education to clinic patients, staff, volunteers, and the community. It also includes generating and sharing engaging content on all social media platforms while communicating with followers, responding to queries, and monitoring client reviews. As part of a collaborative team, the position works with a diverse population, including persons of color, persons who exchange sex, injection and non-injection drug users, youth-at-risk, women at-risk, and the LGBTQ community. The position outreaches to these communities through online outreach and community events as well as street outreach.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participates in continuous quality improvement of services rendered to CARES clients. Promote and practice CARES values and mission, and adhere to all policies and procedures. Willingness to work on nights and weekends as needed. Practice clinical safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating unconditional positive regard to all CARES employees, interns, clients, etc. with an understanding, awareness, and respect for diversity.
- Provide effective HIV/STD education and risk reduction skills with persons who engage in higher-risk behavior through counseling, testing, and referral sessions and/or through other prevention programs as determined by MDHHS, CARES, and the CDC.
- Successfully complete and maintain the HIV Testing certification process and Phlebotomy certification through MDHHS.
- Responsible for spearheading social media content creation and must be able to: generate profiles, edit, publish and share engaging content on all social media platforms to include Grindr, Adam to Adam, Scruff, Tinder, Grizzly, Scruff, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snap chat, etc.
- Stay informed about current HIV/STD trends, PeP/PrEP programming, developments, and state-of-the-art prevention efforts and strategies.
- Develops and fosters networking relationships with community and support resources.
- Effectively achieve quarterly outcomes and report on progress
- Maintain timely documentation and data entry
- Refer individuals to CARES programs as appropriate
- Be willing to work in a team atmosphere and assist other staff when needed
- Implement education initiatives and condom distribution in targeted areas

Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Can work independently but also function as a team member.
- Capable of working with individuals to identify needs and priorities, and facilitate any positive change as a client defines that for themselves.
- Capable of taking the initiative and following a project through to completion.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to resolve problem situations as they arise. Able to identify root causes, assess relevant information, identify a range of options, and make recommendations. Establish and maintain effective working relationships without judgment or bias to clients, staff, and other agencies that possess diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
- Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality with regard to client and organizational information.
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license and have access to licensed, insured transportation available during all regular working hours.

Staff who need to be in the office do so, the majority work remotely. We have all been vaccinated, and masks are still required. Visitors are permitted entry only if it's necessary, and all are screened and must wear PPE. Vaccines are strongly encouraged.
