What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer SOAR Nurse Externship position at Carilion Clinic?
Job Summary

Interviews will be completed in January/February.
Through a one-on-one relationship, students are mentored in two clinical areas throughout an 8-week paid summer externship program. Registered Nurse Students who are preparing for their senior year are paired with a mentor during each 4-week session in a clinical area. The extern will gain hands-on experience by assisting with routine patient care and practicing a variety of clinical nursing skills in the ambulatory setting and/or inpatient care setting. In addition, externs will have the opportunity to attend weekly professional development conferences. This program fosters a positive transition from student to clinical aiming to increase confidence and enhance practice readiness.
Must possess skills to perform clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety and comfort of patients of all ages. Will provide quality service under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse trained in Carilion Clinic's mentorship program.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a rising senior nursing student for Fall 2023 (expected graduation date of December 2024 or May 2025).
- Completion of one Adult Care clinical rotation.
- Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater by the end of spring semester 2024.
- AHA-BLS HCP Required.
