Purpose:  Lead and coordinate, under the Chief Information Officer, the activities related to the College’s infrastructure and information services

Supervises:  Coordinator of Technology Support Services, Computing Infrastructure Specialist, Infrastructure Services Specialist, Coordinator of Instructional Technology and Support Services, Av Computing specialist
 
Reports To: Chief Information Officer
                 
Principal Working Relationships: Chief Information Officer, VP of Academic Services, Director of Administration Computing, Technology Services Staff, Students, Faculty, and Staff.Major Responsibilities
 
  1. Lead the maintenance and operation of academic computing facilities throughout the district in consultation with the Deans, Associate Deans, Directors, Faculty and Staff. 
  2. Lead the management of all servers, network infrastructure, cloud-based infrastructure and related equipment on all campuses.
  3. Manage and maintain complete documentation of all activities related to hardware/software maintenance, upgrades, repairs, configurations and physical inventory relevant to all components of academic computing and infrastructure facilities.
  4. Lead the implementation of upgrades, software and hardware, as needed on all servers and workstations for all campuses.
  5. Provide technical leadership for institution communication systems; including, but not limited to, telephone, VoIP, emergency broadcast alert system and email.
  6. Evaluate and Recommend purchases and upgrades of hardware/software/equipment for Infrastructure Services to include the network, servers and workstations.
  7. Oversee inventory of all servers, software and network related equipment.
  8. Serve as the technical contact in the management of all servers, network infrastructure and related equipment on all campuses.
  9. Continuously build/maintain a working knowledge of networking, Internet, hardware and software.
  10. Implement, manage and maintain a backup routine for all servers and network equipment.
  11. Manage and maintain institution email backup system, to include firmware upgrades and SMTP connection to Office 365.
  12. Oversee the configuration of network clients, printers and other hardware.
  13. Manage endpoint protection services through Checkpoint console for all computing equipment to include all workstations, laptops and servers.
  14. Manage and maintain both server and desktop virtualization environment via VMware.
  15. Develop and monitor an annual operations budget for Infrastructure Services. 
  16. Actively participate in departmental assessment i.e. key performance indicator development and strategy implementation based on the strategic plan.
  17. Provide technology based professional development programs for faculty and staff. 
  18. Oversee and manage the tech help personal to ensure effective faculty and student support
  19. Oversee the college’s network and data infrastructure.
  20. Other duties as assigned. 
 
Assists With
 
  1. Acquisition of hardware and software for instructional computer facilities.
  2. Workshops and seminars on a variety of hardware and software programs including Microsoft Applications, Open LMS (Moodle) and other Software Applications.
  3. Development and maintenance of a district-wide technology replacement schedule. 
  4. oversite of technical projects and tasks pertaining to the College data transmission system (i.e. Internet, LAN/WAN, Administrative Commuter System) and PC/peripheral support services. 
  5. Implementation of security best practices in order to provide confidentiality and integrity of the College’s data.
  6. Development and maintenance of the College’s Technology Master Plan.
 
Risk Management and Loss Prevention Activities
 
1.    Actively participate in and carry out activities in support of the college Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position.
2.    Monitor hazardous conditions, events, and circumstances present in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff, or the general public, then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or Risk Management Committee.
3.    Maintain a working knowledge of the college’s emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems; including internal/external call boxes.
4.    Monitor and assist with backup procedures for protection of data and respond to violations of user’s agreement.Minimum Necessary Skills, Experience and Education Background
 
  1. Bachelor’s Degree or 120 semester hours college credit or equivalent experience providing end user IT services in a higher education environment. 
  2.  Supervisory skills required.
  3. Preferred certifications: Microsoft Servers, Microsoft Certified Professional, Cisco, and Ethical Hacker.
  4. Good organizational and time management skills. 
  5. Working knowledge of technology operations including Wired and Wireless Network Technologies, Virtual Server Management, Disaster Recovery, Data Security and Privacy, IT Personnel Management, Strategic Technology Planning. 
  6. The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, gender, or race. 
  7. Broad knowledge of innovative methodologies, strategies and tools, including technologies that support engaged learning and the needs of students. 
  8. Exhibits integrity and professionalism.
  9. Spanish or French proficiency preferred
   Physical Requirements to Perform Job Functions 
1.    Basic dexterity skills (computer work, telephone and other office equipment. 
2.    Must be physically able to pack, lift, carry and transport equipment and materials as needed (50 pounds or less) and the ability to place work orders for anything over that limit.
3.    General physical efforts required includes sitting, bending, and reaching.
4.    The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, sex or race.
