POSITION Parking Garage Attendant
FLSA STATUS Non-Exempt, Part-Time
PAY RATE $11.58/hour
SCHEDULE Monday through Friday - 20 hours per week
Shifts start at 7:30 am, 8:30 am, 1:30 pm, or 2:30 pm
(6-7 hour shifts). Rotating shifts 2:30 pm -9:30 pm are required every third Friday, subject to change.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Parking Garage Attendant operates and monitors the parking garage and ensures that all patrons comply with the rules and regulations.
Work is performed in accordance with general instruction received from the
Assistant Finance Director or their designee. The employee exercises no direct supervision and performs work that is readily learned on the job.
The Parking Garage Attendant provides exceptional customer service and is expected to uphold the public interest and advance the vision set forth by the
Borough and community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions may include the customary duties and responsibilities noted herein, however, the information below is not an exhaustive list of duties and instead serves as a representative sample of the expectations of the position.
1. Provide excellent customer service while performing a variety of tasks related to parking garage operations such as staffing the booth, greeting customers, monitoring parking passes, issuing tickets, ensuring gate tickets are valid, accurately calculating and collecting fees, and providing receipts.
2. Provide excellent customer service while providing information to downtown visitors; handling and resolving disputes.
3. Ensure the parking garage is clean; remove trash and debris; call third-party contractor to clean biohazardous waste.
4. Responsible for maintaining the appearance of the parking booth, private areas (i.e. storage/bathroom) and all common areas (parking garage floors/stairwells/elevator, etc.) such as hand cleaning of windows; manual sweeping and mopping; pulling weeds; watering flowers/shrubbery; gathering and emptying trash (bags should not weigh more than 25 lbs; 5 bags per shift average), etc.
5. Maintain parking inventory supplies.
6. Monitor activity in and around the parking garage to ensure compliance with rules and regulations
7. Performs related work, assists other departments, and performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFYING CRITERIA: An equivalent combination of credentials and experience to sufficiently perform the duties of the position may be considered:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES: The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Ability to present a positive image and attitude on a daily basis.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships customers and co-workers.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently; knowledge of the capability, limitation, and hazard of operating any assigned equipment.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time inside/outside attendants’ booth.
- Ability to walk short distances to inspect each level of the garage and elevator.
- Ability work independently with little or no direct supervision.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Ability to manually operate gates and parking equipment in the event of equipment malfunction or power failure (involves repetitive bending and stooping).
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and carefully.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described below are representative of those required for the position.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather conditions.
- Walking, standing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Use hands to handle, grasp, and write.
- See and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to use body to work, move or carry objects or materials.
