SUMMARY
The Development Engineer is an integral part of Carlisle Medical Technologies innovation and product development processes. This position is responsible for research and development of new processes and development of processes related to New Product Development activities. The Development Engineer manages assigned projects by adhering to Carlisle Medical Technologies (CMT) and customer specifications, project schedules, and costs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop manufacturing process steps and parameters for customer products. This includes technical information and documentation. This is accomplished through partnership with applications engineers, quality engineers, and operations staff.
- Research and develop new manufacturing capabilities/processes
- Facilitate and manage portions of new product development and introduction process
- Integrates product design and manufacturing processes to ensure smooth transition to manufacturing (keeps product development and production processes linked)
- Documents the processing steps required to manufacture products
- Assists with process validation plans and reports
- Balances customer expectations/wants and Carlisle capabilities/abilities
- Interacts with customers when needed
- Works with quality engineers and others to develop pFMEA documents. Also, provides support on assessing other risks (DFMEA, DIO, etc.)
- Initiates and carries out projects associate with product/process improvement. Implementation of improvements is coordinated with applications engineers, and account managers.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Engineering Technicians
- Work with Procurement and outside approved vendors to bring in materials/components that provide solutions
- Assist Quality Department in developing engineering and quality plans and reports
- Assist manufacturing and/or engineering in troubleshooting manufacturing problems
- Assist in the quoting process by estimating process steps and times

QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with AutoCAD, CREO, and/or SolidWorks
- Highly adept with technical engineering drawings, specifications, and other engineering documentation
- Effective communication, interaction, and cooperation skills with manufacturing, sales, other personnel, as well as customers and suppliers
- Broad engineering abilities and understanding of electrical, mechanical, and mfg/industrial engineering disciplines (general understanding of each, with focus in one or more of these disciplines)
- Ability to write technical protocols and reports
- Computer skills, specifically MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint as a minimum
- Experience with performing DOEs and statistical data analysis highly beneficial
- Wire, cable, and interconnect experience beneficial
- Cable design experience beneficial
- Medical/FDA experience/knowledge beneficial
- Project Management skills desired
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following required (or 5-10 years of similar experience): Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must maintain industry certifications as applicable to position and value stream that is supported. Including but not limited to; IPC-WHMA-A-620, IPC-JSTD-001, IPC-610, IPC-600 and NASA 8739
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
