Carlow University is now accepting applications for the role of TRiO Student Success Coach . The purpose of this position is to provide small group and individual success coaching for students eligible for TRiO Student Support Services in academic, co-curricular, and personal areas to build engagement, persistence and resilience for a better retention and graduation outcome.
The candidate will be a referral source to internal and external resources while supporting students in becoming independent and effective consumers of such supports.
Evening and occasional weekend hours are required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Initiate Intrusive advising measures by meeting regularly with students one-to-one and in small groups to assess progress, needs, help them prepare to meet their faculty academic advisors and coordinate referrals to Carlow academic and student affairs supports.
- Advocate for the student as they negotiate the academic, student life and health care landscape by working with relevant internal and external providers to ensure the student's needs and accommodations are understood and enacted.
- Document all information pertaining to identified students needing ongoing support and monitoring. Keep accurate and confidential records of student appointments, referrals and academic progress.
Support the Project Director in data analysis and tracking of records.
- Educate and advise the student in the development of self-advocacy skills and ensure coordination of resources and support systems to meet the various needs of students who are experiencing significant disruption related to mental health, physical health, academic functioning, and / or psycho-social adjustment.
- Maintain effective and clear written and oral communications between the students and the various constituencies involved in the students' academic pursuits.
This includes but may not be limited to on-campus and off-campus providers of professional services, various campus partners and Student Life and Academic Affairs, and occasionally family members.
Strictly adhere to principles and policies of student confidentiality.
- Monitor the progress of students through the various phases of engagement and ensuring compliance with recommendations and follow up.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with the Office of Career Development, Disabilities Services Office, Student Affairs, and Financial Aid.
- Effectively engage students, faculty, and staff to foster a supportive and positive atmosphere.
- Work closely with community organizations to provide outreach events and services to students and to build relationships that will lead to support options for Carlow students.
- Engage in recruiting and social media opportunities.

- Bachelor's degree plus graduate credits or currently in an accredited master's program in psychology, public health, social work, counseling, education, or a related field
- Preferred : Master's degree in psychology, public health, social work, counseling, education, or a related field
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE :
A minimum of one years' experience with outreach in student support and education preferably in a higher education environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND / OR LICENSURE :
- Ability to work a varied schedule with flexible hours, including some evening and occasional weekend hours; ability to act effectively in emergency and crisis situations.
- Demonstrate experience building inclusive learning environments for diverse students, staff, and faculty. Interested applicants who have overcome similar barriers (low-income, first-generation college students) are encouraged to apply
- Familiar with current trends in higher education and technology, and the ability to enhance the use of technology and other resources to meet student needs.
- Ability to build strong working alliances with students, staff, and faculty who may hold differing viewpoints. Ability to work collaboratively and always maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Must be capable of communicating with confidence and comfort, and of sustaining individual and group social interactions in a variety of settings.
