The Department of Embryology of the Carnegie Institution for Science is recruiting an Electron Microscopy (EM) Research Assistant to support the EM research of the Department. This includes but is not limited to research on animal and plant tissues and microbes for examination by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) using a wide range of basic and advanced EM technical procedures.
This individual will assist the current EM Specialist by conducting EM sample processing, TEM operation, and lab management including ordering, data keeping, reagent preparation, instrument maintenance, and training users on TEM operation as well as operation of another accessory instrument. This position will also supervise daily lab usage in the absence of the EM Specialist.

Requirements
BA/BS in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field with hands-on experience in basic laboratory and scientific methods. Knowledge and skills in TEM sample processing and instrument operation is preferred but not required. Research-based experience preferred. Consideration will be given to unique combinations of education and experience. Individuals with an advanced degree are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials, and/or ionizing radiation.
Research Environment:
The Department of Embryology is one of six departments comprising the Carnegie Institution for Science. The department functions as a private, non-profit research institute affiliated with Johns Hopkins University and is located adjacent to the JHU Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD.
