Job Description
We are hiring a Nautical Safety Manager!
This individual is the Intermediary to the Company’s overall Nautical Safety and Security strategy, consistent with the Company’s mission, strategy, and core values. Monitor and verify the conformance of vessel operations with all company policies and the documented management system. Liaise and coordinate with the Nautical and Safety Director to identify any potential deviations and to provide guidance and support for the effective implementation of corrective actions on board the vessels. Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). Responsible, as SME of HESS-ms MAR/TRG procedures assigned, to follow up with RAAS or third-party auditors’ findings and work through the various audit steps along with compliance department. Liaise and coordinate with the technical department for actions related to safety Planned Management Systems (PMS) items pertaining to his/her area of expertise. Coordinate with the technical/electrical department the upgrade of the Bridge Instruments to comply with ECDIS requirements and improve overall operation of the Bridge Resource Management (BRM) procedures. Responsible for the management of the fleet Electronic Nautical Charts (ENC) and publications. Act as BRM 1 – BRM 2 – Integrated Navigation System (INS) – Collision Regulations fleet instructor as needed
Essential Functions:
- Support the Vessel Technical Superintendents and Vessel Operators on day-to-day matters to ensure an uninterrupted safe & secure operation of the vessel
- Support the Nautical Operations department in ensuring that the Company’s “Safety Management System” is effectively implemented, understood, maintained, and continuously improved and remains in compliance with and certified by recognized authorities
- Act as a resource to vessel Masters and Deck Officers for marine technical matters relating to Safety, Fire Fighting, Navigation and Voyage Planning, Cargo Operations, Stability and Stress Calculations, Communications, and Emergency Response.
- Tracking of the CMS Safety Notices in InfoShip/PMS Shipboard Items/Audit steps in Hess platform
- Arrange training for Deck Officers such as webinars/LMS related to audit findings, results of PSC inspections, results of flag inspections, ensuring that the appropriate procedures are followed, and the corrective actions are taken.
- Keep up-to-date with relevant legislation and standards related to the Maritime Industry.
- Assist with incident investigations, the close-out of non-conformities, and other audit findings
- When directed, audit and report findings according to Company’s Safety Management System
- Support in managing and optimizing the company’s Safety Management System according to the ISM Code
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Nautical Academy or Master License
- 5 years’ experience on board ships with nautical operations background
- Knowledge in SOLAS, BRM, ECDIS and INS. Expert knowledge of ship operations and handling, securing, rigging and line handling, lifting gear, Navigation and Voyage Planning, Stability and Stress Calculations
- Service as a ship’s Deck Officer preferably in the cruise industry
- Proficient in MS Office and Excel
