The Carolina Federation is a statewide organization that brings people together across race to build a new political majority in North Carolina - one rooted in a culture of belonging and strong enough to win elections and wield governing power in our state. Our work combines the best of Southern freedom traditions: deep base-building, transformative cultural work, power-building issue campaigns, and large-scale voter organizing.
In just five years our chapter-based membership organization has grown to become one of the largest voter engagement operations in our state. But we are equally proud to be known for the depth of our leadership development, our democratic endorsement processes, and the governance of the organization by elected member leaders.
As we prepare for a major political battle in 2024, we’re looking for a Regional Office Director in New Hanover County who will use their skills and passion to support the Federation’s large-scale voter contact work.
About the Regional Office Director Position
The Guilford Regional Office Director’s primary responsibility is directly managing and overseeing a regional office space and a team of canvassers. They report to one of two Engagement Team Co-Directors. The following is required:
- North Carolina resident, 21 & over, that can provide proof of your up to date COVID-19 vaccination status
- Managing an office that is open 10:30am-8:30pm 6 days a week, with at least 10 canvassers any given shift.
- Ensuring integrity and quality execution of our canvassing strategies by being in constant communication with your canvassers in the field, including one-on-one calls and visits on a daily basis
- Contributing to turf management, turf cutting and overseeing turf tracking
- Overseeing your office’s scheduling and hour-tracking
- Flexible problem-solver who takes ownership of their role and makes sure their office runs smoothly
Skills and Competencies We’re Looking For In An Ideal Regional Office Director
- Technical skills: An office director must have at least one cycle working as a manager with VAN in a North Carolina paid political campaign, familiarity with VAN both as a canvasser and manager is preferred as well as competence with G suite
- Organizational skills: An office director must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively and maintain accurate and up-to-date records. An office director must be detail-oriented, with the ability to ensure that all tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Time management skills: An office director must be able to manage their time effectively to ensure the smooth operation of the office.
- Adaptability: An office director must be able to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities and be willing to take on new challenges as they arise.
- Leadership skills: An office director must be able to lead and motivate a team of canvassers, setting clear goals and expectations and providing support and guidance as needed.
- Communication skills: An office director must be able to communicate effectively with canvassers, co-workers, engagement co-directors and sometimes even neighbors. This includes the ability to listen actively, speak clearly, and write concisely.
- Interpersonal skills: An office director must be able to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse group of people, including canvassers, coworkers, the engagement co-directors and sometimes community members as well. There won’t be a set structure to do this office director will work with the uniqueness of each person to cultivate the relationships.
- Problem-solving skills: An office director must be able to identify and solve problems as they arise to ensure the smooth operation of the office. Being able to foresee problems as well would be ideal.

- This is a full-time, temporary position starting March 2024 and ending in December 2024
- Monthly salary of $5.500 per month with opportunity for raises depending on experience and performance.

- Reimbursement for in-state travel costs for gas
- Potential to transition to a permanent staff position within the Carolina Federation, depending on performance.
- This position is based in Wilmington, NC but will require occasional travel to Greensboro, Winston-Salem and/or Durham for training and staff meetings. The ideal candidate for this position would live in Wilmington. Applicants from other North Carolina-based locations may be considered.
Applicants must have their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for any business-related personal vehicle use at the federal mileage rate.
