PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires moderately heavy occupational exertion on a regular and reoccurring basis such as extensive driving, assisting patients in transfer activities (wheelchair to bed, to tub, to commodes) and providing substantial support to individuals in ambulation therapy. Regularly required to use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally required to sit. Occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office, health care setting-exposure to infectious disease.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provides treatment as ordered by the attending physician.
2. Assists the physician in evaluating the patient’s level of function. Evaluates and establishes goals based on the patient’s current level of function and potential improvements. Assists in developing and updating the plan of treatment.
3. Guides and instructs therapeutic, self-care and creative activities that are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning.
4. Observes, records and reports to the physician the patient’s reaction to the therapy program or any changes in the patient’s condition.
5. Advises, consults and instructs patients in the use of prosthetic, orthotic and assistive devices. Instructs, teaches and supervises other health care team personnel in the case of patients requiring occupational therapy.
6. May supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) and co-sign Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant’s progress notes.
7. Adheres to all applicable federal, state, local and company maintained standards of care and ethics and policies concerned with the practice of occupational therapy and among other things, personnel qualifications.
8. Participates in staff development activities. Participates in in-services education programs.
9. Demonstrates evidence of continuing education conducted for the in-service sessions.
10. Meets productivity and utilization expectations as established by the Company and the facility.
11. Completes timely clinical documentation to include functional goal-setting, progress and therapeutic approach.
12. Completes clinical documentation timely and accurately.
13. Covers more than one facility as required by the need of the Company.
