Geographic Information Systems Analyst

Job Description
Performs professional and technical work involving the development, operation and maintenance of the County's Geographic Information System (GIS). Job Responsibilities
Converting geographic information to digital data; maintaining records and files; prepares maps.
Performs field inspections to acquire and verify geographic data as needed
Researches and resolves conflicting geographic data
Performs routine processing of various information for inclusion in various County geographic files; assist in the preparation of original maps, charts and drawings from aerial photographs and survey data.
Performs routine daily work, including compilation, editing, maintenance, extraction and application of geographic data; revises features of existing maps and charts and corrects simple maps in various stages of compilation;
Provides designated geographic information to interested parties in support of the Countywide Geographic Information System (GIS)
Reviews development projects for accuracy and completeness of required geographic information and adherence to codes and standards
Assists in research and interpretation of land records from multiple sources
Trains staff in other department to perform basic GIS functions related to the needs of the department
Works closely with staff in other County departments and with the Department of Information Technology staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
GIS Analyst - Working knowledge of personal computers, plotters, digitizers, printers, networks, internet and scanners. Knowledge of other software systems and programming languages, such as ArcGIS software, AutoCad software, Microsoft Office, Windows Operating Systems, Sql relational databases, and GPS hardware/software. Thorough knowledge of geocoding, land records or parcel maintenance, street network maintenance, data conversion, cartography, projections, datums, coordinate systems, surveying COGO, database management, statistical data analysis and vector and raster geographic data; ability to analyze. prepare and present technical information. Must be ale to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, government officials and the general public; ability to effectively communicate ideas both orally and in writing. Strong customer service orientation is required. General knowledge of local government required.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in geography or GIS certification, and considerable working experience with GIS and ESRI GIS products. Additional Information
