What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Casa Esperanza, Inc.?
The Controller is responsible for leading the month-end close process, preparation of monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy of accounting transactions and implementation and monitoring of internal controls over financial reporting.
The Controller should have the ability to conduct effective research and analyze data to identify problems and recommend its solutions.
.Must be able to work independently, professionally, and with a minimum of supervision and guidance.
Responsibilities include:
· Prepares and review journal entries, reconciles ledger accounts and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and organizational policies, procedures and contracts.
· Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
· Analyze and research revenue discrepancies
· Reconcile monthly 3rd party reports and prepares adjusting journal entries
· Assist in maintaining and reconciling payroll
· Assist in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded.
· Review monthly contract billing and invoices
· Review general ledger payroll entries.
· Review and ensure proper allocation of contract income, cash receipts, rental income, third party billing, grant awards, donations, and other income.
· Ensure revenue and expense allocations to cost centers are accurate and reasonable.
· Oversee accounts payable, direct the processing of the invoices and payments
· Serve as a liaison between account payable staff and external parties, including lenders, suppliers and government agencies
· Review bank accounts reconciliation
· Prepares fixed assets schedule and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.
· Prepare monthly closing general ledger entries.
· Complete daily, monthly and quarterly responsibilities in accordance with Finance Calendar.
· Perform month-end GL account reconciliations and maintain their schedule
· Assist in the planning and preparation of year-end audit work papers.
· Assist with Budget preparation
· Produce monthly financial statements including balance sheet, profit/loss statements, cash flow statements, and budget to actual
· Prepare quarterly, yearly and interim grant and loan reports in a timely manner including FFR and
· Prepare monthly management reports.
· Perform research of technical accounting issues and recommend actions accordingly
· Perform special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed
Experience, Knowledge and Skills necessary for the position:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
· Familiarity with specialized nonprofit industry or Healthcare accounting practices, reporting requirements and procedures
· Proficient in grants management and/or revenue cycle management
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle exposure to sensitive information.
· Exceptional ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in data entry and analysis, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
· Excellent customer service skills including written, verbal, and telephone communication.
· High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
· Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks or other accounting software.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required, including Excel and Word.
· Ability to meet the physical and training requirements of the position.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $120,000.00 per year
