The Medical Records Office Assistant ensures patient medical records are entered into the EMR proficiently and accurately. This position also is responsible for the release of health information and general duties associated with Medical Records to include responding to requests for release of information and processing according to department turn-around time. The position assists the Medical Records Manager with operations of the department as instructed.
Education and Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
General computer skills
Ability to organize and achieve quality performance
Proficient communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with patients, coworkers, physicians, families, etc
Knowledge of the electronic medical record
Ability to understand and apply relevant legal concepts (e.g., confidentiality).
Previous medical records experience
Essential Job Functions
Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of the electronic medical record system.
Assist physicians and clinical staff with releasing records for referrals or continued patient care.
Assist patients with release of information forms for PHI and accurately release records per request.
Accurately prepare and release records for workman’s compensation, subpoenas, physician clinics, and audits.
Manage and respond to phone calls assisting patients, physicians, nurses, and employees in a timely and professional manner.
Electronically file incoming faxes into the correct patient charts and category.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the HIPAA regulations that apply to the Hospital, protecting the security of the medical record to ensure confidentiality is maintained.
