Description The Machine Sound Engineering Tech Steward is globally recognized within Caterpillar as the leading expert in Caterpillar product noise control, intentional mechanical or electronic sound design, and overall sound management technology. The Steward is also known by external suppliers, universities, and trade societies and represents the company with these organizations. Forming and maintaining strong business relationships with internal and external collaborators is key to understanding acoustics needs for the company and finding potential solutions globally. In this position, individuals demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented engineering problems, determine program objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, contribute to global engineering teams, and develop standards and guides for diverse engineering activities. Projects are typically complex and may integrate similar technologies and strategies over multiple applications. Individuals at this level may potentially lead technology change and have an impact on the industry. As the technical lead in the core technical acoustics team, the Steward is responsible for maintaining and growing competency corporate wide to ensure Caterpillar products can achieve sound requirements and meet international regulations with efficiency. This includes engagement in sound community forums, providing training, and maintaining technical knowledge. The Steward also needs to understand intellectual property protection and assist others in the sound community in protecting the value of our internal competency. The position works closely with the Global Sound and Cooling Manager to set the corporate acoustics development strategy and oversees the annual research and engineering program. Job Duties - Managing, distributing, and protecting Caterpillar acoustics intellectual property - Representing Caterpillar acoustics technology internally and externally - Identifying and growing strategic external relationships with universities and suppliers - Assisting with the development of acoustic competency and technology development strategy - Developing and overseeing the execution of Caterpillar acoustics research and engineering program - Assisting product groups with understanding and resolving difficult acoustics issues - Identifying and validating new technologies for implementation in Caterpillar products Basic Qualifications - BS degree in Engineering (ME, EE, AgE) or Physics - At least 15 years of direct experience with product noise engineering and an advanced degree with an acoustics focus or at least 20 years of direct experience with product noise engineering in lieu of an advanced degree. - At least 5 years leading a team and serving as a mentor and coach - At least 5 years in acoustics technology development Top Candidates will also have - Established relationships with acoustic industry suppliers, universities, and trade societies. - Excellent verbal and written communication - Experience with acoustics simulation - Technical understanding of electronic recording and playback equipment (microphones, speakers, etc.) - Experience with noise control of construction and mining machines - A network established in Caterpillar Additional Information - The location for this position is Mossville, IL and Peoria, IL Proving Grounds. - Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position. - This position will require less than 10% travel. -Visa sponsorship is allowed for this position.
