Career Area: Engineering Job Description: The successful Mechanical Design Engineer candidate will work closely with various cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to design and develop new and enhanced industrial gas turbine engine components or improve existing turbine engine components. The candidate will have the ability to perform detailed mechanical design work related to the development of gas turbine component concepts and also be willing to mentor junior level design engineers in the related engineering sciences pertaining to modern design principles. Other gas turbine hot section component design fundamentals are beneficial including heat transfer/turbine durability methods and secondary flow system analysis fundamentals. All are considered highly beneficial for the role. The selected candidate will play an integral role in ensuring that the new and enhanced components/systems fulfill performance, manufacturing, durability, maintainability, and cost targets. A strong background in mechanical analysis related to structural vibrations of rotating and static turbine hardware is essential. The ideal candidate will thus have the skills necessary to successfully lead progress from concept to validation and have the ability to execute or support the following engineering activities: Finite Element Analysis (Ansys FEA), modal analysis, model and drawing creation, engineering specification development, component durability assessments, engine test data analysis including understanding state of the art mechanical vibration data and appropriate data reduction & interpretation methods. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Minimum Qualifications: · 5 years of directly applicable Mechanical Design work experience bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or closely related degree · Experience with Concept and Detail design principles · Gas turbine design and analysis experience · Experience using Finite element (FEA) analysis (ANSYS) software to perform detailed analysis · Experience with creation, checking and release of engineering drawings Preferred Qualifications: · 10 years relevant mechanical design work experience · Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering · Proficiencies for the following skills and tools: o Geometric dimensional and tolerance specifications (ASME Y14.5-2009) o Design/manufacturing/drawing practices o Creo (or related CAD system) o Windchill, Microsoft Office and technical writing · ANSYS and/or ABAQUS Experience in the design and/or analysis of gas turbine components, gas turbine operation and application, materials and processes, manufacturing methods and test procedures · Experience with detailed cross-section stack-ups · Experience with life prediction methods · Experience with turbine blade heat transfer essentials Compensation & Benefits Base salary for this role ranges from $127,190.00, to $190,784.00. Actual salary will be based on experience.
