A Quality Engineer is responsible for the generation of a strategic plan to improve the business processes and increase production output. Duties include creating the company's quality standards (QMS) and testing systems to reflect efficiency, reliability and performance. Quality engineer helps to monitor and improve the quality of our operational processes and outputs. Quality engineer designs quality standards, inspects materials, equipment, processes, and products, develops quality control systems, determines corrective actions and work with managers and supervisors to implement quality measures. To this end, the position encompasses wide-ranging and shifting roles, as needed, and requires a willingness to adopt new and evolving projects.

General Job Description

  • Developing and implementing quality standards and quality control systems in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure products adhere to company and industry quality standards
  • Brainstorm ideas to create solutions for identified problems
  • Formulate a strategic plan to increase productivity in the business
  • Document results and findings after inspections are carried out
  • Implement a working system to ensure conformity and accuracy in the production process
  • Implements, trains and manages processes to ensure that products meet required specifications for quality prior to delivery.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance and determine quality metrics for all procedures
  • Inspecting and testing materials, equipment, processes, and products to ensure quality specifications are met.
  • Collaborating with operations managers to develop and implement controls and improvements.
  • Ensuring that workflows, processes, and products comply with safety regulations.
  • Investigating and troubleshooting any issues with processes and developing corrective actions, solutions, and improvements.
  • Communicates and makes sure that all personnel are trained on new directives, policies, or procedures.
  • Identifies quality defects and food safety issues and other problems, particularly when problems recur in multiple products; recommends solutions to these issues.
  • Participate in all internal, regulatory, third party, supplier and customer audits and inspections, and corrective action response and prepare necessary documents.
  • Perform root cause analysis investigations for customer complaints, OOS material, and quality failures.
  • Assist in maintaining QA Programs (eg: pest control, mock recalls, document control etc.)
  • Assist QA Manager with day-to-day activities and act as liaison in absence of Manager.
  • Input data electronically and provide feedback on trends for sanitation, operations and quality reports.
  • Able to be a lead or work as a team in order to complete task.
  • Comprehensively reviewing and approving all documents for accuracy.
  • Processing QA contributions to software solutions like DEACOM, eQMS etc.
  • Attending meetings, taking minutes, and disseminating information through team members as well as other departments as it relates to them.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in engineering, food science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, pharmacy, nutrition, medicine, epidemiology, or Industry specific field of study a plus.
  • Extensive experience in a quality assurance environment required
  • High proficiency in computer technology and systems operations
  • In-depth understanding of industry market trends and conditions
  • Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills (essential)
  • Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Thorough comprehension of USDA regulations and directives, Good Manufacturing Practices, federal regulations, HACCP and OSHA.
  • Extremely focused on personal and food safety.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent attendance and reliability.
