Catawba County Human Resources is recruiting a responsible and experienced Risk Manager to join our team. We are seeking a dynamic professional with outstanding communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills to fill a key role in our organization. The Risk Manager performs professional work in administration of the County’s Risk Program including safety, insurance administration/claims processing, record keeping, consultation with departments, and employee training.

Responsibilities
- Development and supervision of the County’s safety program, including participation in safety committees, record keeping, employee training, and OSHA compliance for all County departments
- Insurance administration to include supervision of claims maintenance and assistance with procurement of a variety of lines of coverage such as property and liability, workers’ compensation, cyber liability, auto, crime, builders risk, and medical malpractice
- Management of a wide variety of risk programs for the County including defensive driving, random and post-accident screening, contract monitoring, ergonomic consultations, and return to work assignments
- Annual risk review and report on insurance, worker’s compensation and driving with individual department follow-up to develop plans to reduce associated risks
- Administration of risk division including budgeting, policy development and monitoring and staff supervision
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and 2 years of professional experience in insurance administration, worker’s compensation, OSHA compliance and safety training (Prefer experience in the public sector); OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management & Insurance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and 4 years of professional experience in insurance administration, worker’s compensation, OSHA compliance and safety training (Prefer experience in the public sector)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid NC Driver’s license with a safe driving record
- Ability to obtain NC Labor General Industry 30-hour course certification within 12 months
- Knowledge of risk management, workers’ compensation, OSHA regulations, and human resources laws
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a comfort level in speaking and training in front of small and larger groups
- Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to work collaboratively with internal and external customers
- Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical ability and reasoning skills
- Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
- Highly detail oriented and data-driven with excellent computer skills and experience with developing and using various spreadsheets and systems
- This is considered light work; may lift up to 25 pounds to transport training, risk management, or safety supplies.
