Position Summary
The Youth Mentoring Program Supervisor (YMPS) is responsible for supervising the Youth Mentoring Program for refugees ages 15-24. The goal of the program is to promote positive civic and social engagement and support individual educational and vocational advancement. To accomplish these goals, the YMPS will match eligible youth with positive adult mentors who will provide the youth with personalized interaction. The YMPS will also provide case management to support educational and career development.
Essential Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Nevada State Refugee Office and local resettlement agencies, develop and execute this program.
- Create activities that includes civic and community services as well as provide academic support.
- Conduct an initial assessment of the needs and goals of the youth and develop a plan to meet those needs through educational, vocational and social activities.
- Provide case management that includes documenting services provided and the progress of each youth toward meeting the youths needs and goals.
- Recruit and train mentors on how to support refugee youths.
- Screen potential mentors to see if the person has a criminal history or a history of child abuse.
- Recruit refugee youths to participate in this program.
- Plan monthly social activities for both mentors and mentees.
- Responsible for completing program reports.
- Create and update program policies and procedures.
- Protect all confidential information, company property and electronic data. Comply with safety rules.
- Other related duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bilingual in refugee languages (Spanish, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Farsi and/or Swahili).
- Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills to successfully communicate and collaborate with refugee youths, volunteer mentors, community partners, funders and colleagues.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with individuals with very limited English speaking abilities.
- Possess a team building capacity with great organizational skills.
- Strong skills in dealing with difficult and challenging personalities and situations.
- Ability to accept responsibilities, follow or exceed organizational standards.
- Ability to manage competing demands and use time effectively.
- Knowledge of the community resources.
- Ability to travel out of town to attend convening, consultation or conferences.
- Proficiency in computers and software including Microsoft Office.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Social Service field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of three years of work experience in the areas of: mentoring, volunteer engagement, case management and/or supervisory or combination of education and related equivalent experience.
- Flexible schedule to work after hours and weekends, as necessary.
- Must be 25 years old, a valid Drivers License with current minimum Nevada state required auto insurance.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily works in office environment, but will also work throughout the agency and off site.
- Ability to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to continuously sit and/or stand. Ability to climb stairs as needed.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
