Job Summary: The Substance Abuse Education & Services Coordinator provides intake/counseling and addiction services in a congregate living, supportive housing program that is based on the Recovery Model to adults who have substance use disorders, and who are mentally and/or emotionally impaired, and released from jail or prison.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Provide initial assessment and drug screenings/intake and confidential addiction counseling, education, and support services to individuals, families, groups, and community promoting healthy lifestyles and healthy choices.
2. Assist individuals to Identify their need for treatment and create goals for treatment/aftercare plans.
3. Develop and present addiction and relapse prevention counseling to individuals and groups regarding the use and effect of alcohol and drugs.
4. Collaborate with supportive housing team in the identification of candidates who qualify for substance abuse services from the Department of Corrections, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the community.
5. Collaborate with other professionals involved with clients for individualized care.
6. Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding client care.
7. Maintain accurate client records. Evaluate the effectiveness and progress toward treatment goals and communicate needs, progress, and barriers.
8. Maintain quality program practices (CQI) for developed addictions education program. Attend continuing education courses as necessary.
9. Serve as a liaison between the Department of Corrections, FBOP, and other community partners specializing in substance abuse. Share expertise with different programs within the Agency such as the Housing department programs. Participate in agency and community committees.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education/Licenses and Experience Qualifications Required:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human services or related field.
· 3 years of experience in a social service organization
· Certified in Addictions Counseling (CAC)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
· Knowledge of client needs and risk assessments and service plans
· Knowledge of mental illness and addiction services, theory and recovery
· Knowledge of Stages of Change and appropriate interventions
· Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and skill development
· Knowledge of crisis management, individual and group counseling methods
· Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
· Ability to build relationships and to work with people from diverse backgrounds
· Ability to give presentations to large groups
· Problem-solving skills
· Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment and database systems
Education Required
Bachelors or better.
