What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate position at Catholic Charities?

We are currently hiring a Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate to work in our Fulton & Montgomery Counties agency. As the DV Shelter Advocate, you would provide empowerment-based support for victims of domestic violence and their children who are in a residential shelter setting. You would:
- Receive calls during office hours for shelter screenings and client questions;
- Complete intake and discharge process for all clients;
- Assess needed supports and services;
- Identify available resources;
- Provide referrals and linkages to other community agencies as appropriate;
- Develop safety plans for clients;
- Work with other advocates to provide empowerment for clients applying for other services in order to live violence and abuse free;
- Accompany or transport clients to appointments with providers, courts, and DSS as deemed necessary;
- Assist with finding safe housing for clients;
- Assist clients with understanding their rights and with completing any associated paperwork;
- Maintain accurate and complete case notes;
- Maintain general upkeep of the shelter
Minimum Salary: $18 per hour
Maximum Salary: $20 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Qualifications:
- An Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree is preferred
- One year in the field of human services and one year of relevant work experience
- Valid NYS driver license
