Certified Nursing Assistant

The Certified Nursing Assistant, a mature adult, performs under the supervision and/or direction of a Registered Nurse and/or a Licensed Practical Nurse. Performs selected resident care activities to assist in safe treatment and caring for the personal needs and comfort of adult/geriatric residents in accordance with established policies and procedures. To provide necessary care to the residents of this facility in a safe caring manner; in keeping with the Mission, Vision and Values of Catholic Health.
Responsibilities:
• Assists with admission of residents, re: reception, preparation, and data collection
• Functions as a team member in administering direct resident care and meticulous attention to personal hygiene, safety, comfort, skin care and anticipation of needs
• Prepares residents for meals, assists with feeding of residents. Distributes fluids and nourishment/snacks
• Assists with transport of residents between areas of facility and at discharge in a timely manner
• Collects and transports specimens in a timely manner
• Responds to call bells/alarms in a timely manner
• Ensures all personal alarms are in place and functioning per individual residents plan of care
• Communicates appropriate information to nurse; obvious changes in resident's condition
• Records intake, output, BM, vital signs, toileting, range of motion, ambulation, restraint use, nutrition, ADL care, security device bracelets, showers/bathing, skin checks as per facility policy
• Assists the nurse in preparation of resident for examination and treatment and diagnostic tests/X-rays
• Demonstrates appropriate restraint application and restraint release for activity
• Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for residents and co-workers using appropriate safety practices
Requirements:
• Nursing Assistant Certification in Long Term Care in New York State or Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant Program at BOCES or Completion of 100 hour Certified Nursing Assistant Approved Program.
• Valid and current certificate from NY State.
• HS Diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience preferred, Knowledge of safety and infection control policies. Knowledge of computer systems and/or prior clerical experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret medical terminology.
