What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical RN, Cardiac Cath Lab, Per Diem position at Catholic Medical Center?
POSITION SUMMARY:
To deliver care and create a therapeutic environment for patients and families whose needs range from basic to complex by utilizing the nursing process. To carry out functions in a manner consistent with Performance Improvement and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. To demonstrate clinical excellence through proficient practice which enhances and enriches the practice environment. Proficiency is evidenced by adeptness, facility, aptitude, ease and skill in managing complexity and uncertainty.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Director and in accordance with standards of care and practice established by the Nursing Organization and, the specific department; the rules, regulations and/or standards established by the State Board of Nursing, The Joint Commission, and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the patient population under care, the incumbent performs the following functions:
1. Provide admission and Patient readiness for scheduled Cath Procedures
2. Acute telemetry and patient monitoring during Pre/Intra/Post Op stage of the Cath Patient stay.
3. Make decisions in a high pressure/fast pace environment and be flexible to change in schedule and caseloads.
4. Response quickly to change in patient status.
5. Pain management.
6. IV Cardiac medication administration and titration.
7. Conscious sedation recovery/management.
8. Patient assessment pre/post procedure, sunrise documentation, medication reconciliation, Mac Lab documentation.
9. Perform patient and family education instruction pre/post procedure with validation upon discharge.
10. Knowledge of sterile technique and prep.
11. Sheath Removal/TR Band Removal
12. IV Placement
Quality of Care/Performance Improvement
Demonstrates quality nursing care and a commitment to the quality care processes as evidenced by:
1. Assesses patients’ physical and psychosocial status based on interview, examination and review of clinical data.
2. Assesses potential for crisis situations and intervenes before crisis situation develops with adeptness, facility, aptitude, ease and skill in managing complexity and uncertainty.
3. Reassesses patient status at established time frames and as indicated by the patient’s condition.

14. Documents plan of care, assessments and interventions and patient outcomes in an electronic medical record thoroughly, accurately, and according to CMC Professional Nursing Practice Standards and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
15. Reports status, including response to care, and changes in status as appropriate.
16. Ensures calm, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and their families, serving as an advocate when appropriate.
17. Adheres to all safety, organizational and ethical standards according to ANA Code of Ethics.
18. Implements elements of core measures in conjunction with Performance Improvement.
19. Identifies current trends which could impact patient outcomes.
20. Identifies system resources effectively and allocates them appropriately at the point of care delivery.
21. Demonstrates clinical excellence and proficiency in practice in one or more of the following:
- Researches information relative to a new device or medical procedure, that is relevant to the units’ population, and develops reference packet available for staff on unit and encourages colleagues to seek his/her guidance in managing new device or medical procedure.
- Manages a specific complex clinical procedure common to patients in area of practice, and encourages colleagues to seek her/his guidance in managing the specific procedure/technique throughout the year.
- Serves as a primary preceptor throughout the year, providing guidance and support during orientation of new staff members or for student nurses in their senior practicum.
- Takes on role of Charge Nurse throughout the year, providing guidance and support to colleagues and ancillary staff members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

3. Ability to perform computer entry including: ordering, ADT, and charging functions independently or in collaboration with the department coordinator.
4. Ability to wear protective clothing such as gown, mask, glove, head cover, lead apron, safety glasses and/or safety shoes.
5. Ability to perform job alone following standard practices and any of several procedures as defined by the American Nurses Association’s Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and the NH State Board of Nursing, but refer questionable cases when they arise out of standard practice.
6. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
7. Requires the ability to utilize and navigate electronic clinical documentation system in order to enter patient data.
8. Basic computer keyboarding and data entry skills required.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Work schedule may include 5-8 hour days with no weekend coverage anticipated at this time. Personnel may be expected to cover for patient care needs by rotating or working extra shifts. Nursing personnel are assigned to one area upon employment, but may be required to assume assignments in other areas to meet patient needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing preferred.
- BSN strongly preferred.
- Specialty certification strongly preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of nursing experience and/or meets the requirements of Entry RN.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current registration in the State of NH as a Registered Nurse.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certifications per unit requirements: Refer to Education, Credentialing and Certification Policy.
- ACLS Required
