Earn $26.00/hourly

Location: New York, NY

Join the nation’s largest foster care program for refugee children and make a difference by providing a welcoming, stable and safe intake process for Unaccompanied Children entering our program.

Department Description

Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children overseen by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), ensures the well-being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0-17) who cross the US Southern border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregate care settings, our approach involves placing unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potential sponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, and essential mental health services.

The Fly Out Administrators serve some of the most vulnerable minors in the world and play a critical role in coordinating the airline flights for children to unite with sponsors.

How you get to use your skills…

  • Manage and coordinate all airline flights for children to reunite with sponsor
  • Effectively arrange cost-effective, practical flights
  • Work closely with youth transportation specialists and the Youth Support Services Department (YSSD) to maintain organization and structure
  • Respectfully communicate with children, foster parents, and colleagues
  • Assist team during case emergencies
  • Accompany youth to medical/legal appointments, if needed

Schedule:

  • Non-Exempt
  • Regular hours are typically 9:00am-5:00pm, but hours will vary based on youth and program needs
  • Must be flexible to meet program needs

Experience and Skills:
  • Associates degree required
  • Experience working in a busy human services office - strongly preferred
  • Ability to be flexible in the work schedule is a must
  • Ability to take direction and respond appropriately in a crisis situation
  • Bilingual in English-Spanish required. All agency documents and records are in English, so English writing proficiency is required. Position itself requires Spanish speaking, writing, and reading proficiency
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQ children; strong teamwork skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace; Strong data entry and documentation skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with an ability to handle numerous tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential material in a responsible manner
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to exercise greater judgment
  • Competency to make imperative decisions
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • NYS Driver’s License preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Computer work requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time
  • Ability to commute via public transportation for lengthy periods of time (i.e. train, plane, car)
  • Ability to travel to various required locations
