cBEYONData is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Architect that will support a DoD customer by conducting a comprehensive review of their existing technical architectures, developing a cloud migration plan, and supporting a transition to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The individual will be responsible for creating a transition and sunset plan for appropriate systems and processes, evaluating the technical stack for future solutions, and ensuring alignment with long-term strategic objectives. The Architect will also develop a corrective action plan and lead efforts to assess and plan the migration to a cloud-based infrastructure, focusing on AWS as the hosting provider.
Responsibilities:
Technical Architecture Review:
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the existing technical architecture for eight (8) legacy systems
- Analyze available technical documentation, system designs, workflows, and current processes
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or outdated elements in the current architecture that could impede the mission or overall system effectiveness
- Collaborate with system owners and other stakeholders to gather insights on system performance and constraints
Cloud Migration Assessment and Planning (AWS):
- Assess the current infrastructure and its suitability for migration to a cloud environment, specifically focusing on AWS as the target platform
- Develop a comprehensive cloud migration plan that outlines key steps, timelines, and milestones for moving legacy systems to AWS
- Provide detailed guidance on cloud architecture, including considerations for scalability, security, and performance optimization in AWS
- Recommend strategies to minimize disruption during the migration and ensure business continuity
- Identify and document any system dependencies that may impact the migration process and propose solutions to address them
Transition and Sunset Planning:
- Develop a phased transition and sunset plan for decommissioning or transitioning relevant systems and processes
- Ensure the plan includes a detailed timeline and approach, taking into account potential risks, delays, and contingencies
- Propose strategies for executing phased transitions to mitigate disruption and minimize risks during the system handover process
- Regularly refine the plan based on new information, access to systems, and stakeholder feedback to ensure adaptability
Technical Stack Evaluation and Recommendations:
- Evaluate the current technical stack in use for legacy systems to ensure it is aligns with long-term strategic objectives
- Provide recommendations on the appropriate technical stack for the future state ("To-Be" solution) with a focus on leveraging AWS services and capabilities
- Collaborate with technical teams to assess the feasibility of proposed solutions and offer actionable insights on immediate areas for improvement
- Ensure that recommended technical solutions support modern security standards, AWS best practices, and Agile development practices
Corrective Action Plan Development:
- Develop a detailed corrective action plan to support the DoD customer’s mission, identifying critical deficiencies in the current system that require immediate attention
- Propose clear, actionable steps to address identified issues, with a focus on flexibility and adaptability to accommodate any delays or unforeseen challenges
- Include realistic timelines and deliverables for each corrective action, ensuring alignment with the DoD customer’s strategic goals
- Regularly review and update the corrective action plan based on new findings and stakeholder input
Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:
- Engage with stakeholders from across the legacy systems and other relevant government teams to ensure comprehensive understanding of system requirements, cloud migration goals, and future needs
- Provide regular updates to Government leadership on the progress of the technical analysis, cloud migration, transition plans, and corrective actions
- Communicate potential risks and challenges early, offering mitigation strategies to minimize disruption and ensure continuous progress toward strategic objectives
Requirements:
- Secret security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Management, or other equivalent degree
- Extensive experience in system architecture analysis, cloud migration planning, and technical stack evaluation, preferably within Government or defense environments
- Strong understanding of cloud technologies, specifically AWS, including architecture design, scalability, security, and migration best practices
- Proven ability to develop technical roadmaps, transition plans, and corrective actions within complex, multi-stakeholder environments
- Expertise in transitioning legacy systems to modern cloud-based architectures on AWS
- Knowledge of modern technical stacks, Agile software development practices, DevSecOps approaches, and cloud-native technologies
- Excellent communication skills and experience engaging with senior stakeholders to present technical findings and actionable recommendations
- Minimum 7 years of DoD experience
Preferred Experience:
- AWS certification or equivalent cloud expertise
