Overview and Responsibilities:
Supervise reporters, with overall responsibility for the station’s daily news gathering. Develop and evaluate story ideas, with an emphasis on ground-breaking enterprise journalism and strong storytelling. Approve scripts, assist with re-writes and provide production ideas. Collaborate with executive producers and news producers on placement of stories. Develop community contacts for story ideas. Provide regular performance reviews to reporters through coaching and critiquing. Plan for and help lead overage of major news events. Help set and achieve high standards for news content.

Basic Qualifications:
This job requires an individual who combines excellent news judgment, writing and editing ability, creativity and strong management skills. The managing editor must be able to work closely with reporters to improve story conception, execution and story-telling skills. Bachelor’s preferred or previous experience in broadcast news management with direct reporter oversight is a necessity.
