Overview
Position Summary: Processes prescription orders while ensuring that the third party adjudications process is complete, troubleshoots and NDC changes on prepared orders, batches and collates patient paperwork, pulls correct medications, fills pharmacy orders, and assists in the packing and shipping of prescriptions.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Operations Manager, Pharmacy.
Responsibilities
- Possesses a strong pharmacy knowledge base including translation of sig codes, product selection, basic knowledge of brand and generic drugs by name
- Must be familiar with processing queues, completing department To-Do’s and processing prescription refills
- Performs administrative functions of sorting, scanning and filing prescriptions
- Completes daily cycle counts and reconciles inventory
- Maintains a working knowledge of assigned specific pharmacy area/functions as well as cross training in other areas throughout the pharmacy as indicated by management
- Prepares, packages and affixes proper auxiliary labels on a timely basis specifying name of drug, strength, route of administration and quantity
- Places proper paperwork along with an initialed shipping slip and the medication all together for the pharmacist approval
- Inventories and restocks the pharmacy when supplies diminish, including checking in/putting away the order in its proper place in a timely fashion
- Assembles boxes for shipment and stocking supplies used to ship
- Performs all functions associated with the returns and destroys process
- Performs the functions associated with packing a medication order upon completion of pharmacist final check.
- Completes expiration dating review of all medications on a scheduled basis or at each restocking period and quarantine medications for destruction
- Works with vendors and wholesalers and performs functions associated with inventory control
- Processes prescriptions while ensuring that the third party (insurance) adjudications process is complete in accordance with CCS protocol
- Resolves insurance rejections and perform test claims
- Performs data entry of new and refill prescriptions
- Completes medication intake form for new patients or changes for existing patients
- Maintains a complete understanding of prescription processing including: data entry, creation of shipment schedules, verification of insurance and patient eligibility, prescriber calls for prescription refills, intake of refill Rxs from prescriber, generation and collation of processed queues
- Answers inbound patient-related calls and makes outbound patient-related calls
- Maintains a working knowledge of assigned specific pharmacy area/functions as well as cross training in other areas throughout the pharmacy as indicated by management
- Contacts doctors’ offices to request new prescriptions for pharmacy patients
- Courteously assists all customers, internal and external
- Achieves stated goals and objectives as outlined by managements
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality at all times due to access to sensitive information
- Maintains regular, predictable, consistent attendance and is flexible to meet the needs of the department
- Follows all Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, and Private Insurance regulations and requirements
- Abides by all regulations, policies, procedures and standards

Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED with 4 years working as a Pharmacy Technician (inbound/outbound call center experience preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must maintain in good standing registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the state
- Must possess PTCB certification
- Maintain all required continuing education for licensure and certification
- Ability to speak effectively with patients and doctors offices during calls
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must be flexible regarding work schedule. All positions require evening and weekend availability.
