The Plant Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and expertise on fixed and rotating equipment specification, design, operation, and mechanical integrity. The Plant Engineer is responsible for assuring equipment reliability by working within teams including engineers and reliability inspection personnel executing the mechanical integrity program, providing technical support to other departments including Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and EHS&S, and developing/improving departmental standards and best practices. This work includes, but may not be limited to, working with pressure vessels, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, piping, storage tanks, valves, pressure relieving devices, boilers, mechanical instrumentation components etc. The successful candidate will possess proven experience with applicable codes and their respective requirements as they relate to fixed and rotating equipment. Additionally, this position collaborates with other engineers throughout client site to share best practices and execute a world class mechanical integrity program.
Constructively work within the Plant Engineering Department which includes approximately 25 direct and contract personnel with expertise in mechanical engineering, reliability, and inspection.
Investigate, diagnose and formulate equipment repair recommendations that enhance equipment on-stream reliability as requested by Operations, Maintenance and Engineering per individual task, project or turnaround schedule.
Collaborate with Unit Reliability Supervisors to develop pre-turnaround and turnaround equipment inspection plans specific to equipment design specifications and its process conditions per individual turnaround schedule.
Actively participate in turnaround and/or plant shutdown activities.
Develop temporary equipment and piping repair plans per individual task or turnaround schedule.
Evaluate and recommend eventual permanent corrective action per task or turnaround schedules.
Provide technical expertise to plant personnel (e.g. designers, inspectors, maintenance, operations, project and process engineers, etc.) regarding design and fabrication specifications per individual project schedule.
Identify and implement improvements to the mechanical integrity program.
Develop and maintain engineering specifications including, but not limited to, pressure vessel specifications, piping specifications, valve specifications, paint specifications, and insulation specifications.
Participate in PHAs, LOPA studies, Incident Investigations and resolution of action items.
Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and EHS departments to ensure Plant Engineering is meeting the end user's needs and are in compliance with all laws, regulations, and standards.
Act as a corporate resource on API, ANSI, ASME, and other applicable recognized standards for fixed and rotating equipment design, fabrication, inspection, repair, and alteration.
Be self motivated, able to prioritize tasks based on ever-changing plant needs, a good decision maker, and determined to continually expand knowledge of industry standards and practices for the benefit of oneself and the company.
Support the corporate EHS Policy and Programs by incorporating the applicable requirements into plant engineering programs.
Continually evaluate ways to improve site safety.
Internal Controls:
Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts. Identifies and brings to the attention of department management internal controls deficiencies.
Three or more years of hands-on in-plant experience required, whether permanent or periodic temporary assignment.
Five or more years of engineering related experience in the oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing industry.
Understanding of mechanical integrity requirements as defined in OSHA 1910.119.
Experience with ammonia, urea, and UAN processes is preferred.
Five or more years of experience with mechanical integrity is preferred.
Experience with inspection management and RBI software, such as GE's APM (formerly Meridium) mechanical integrity module, is preferred.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) required. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with personnel of all backgrounds.
Strong management skills required, including team leading, decision making, and prioritizing.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
The ability to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
The ability to prove drug and alcohol free at random or for cause.
A B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
