What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Quality Technician (Seasonal) position at Cemstone?
Job Summary:
The Plant Technician is responsible for performing quality control testing on aggregates supplied to the ready-mix plant by testing the moisture content, minus #200 sieve and gradations of those materials to insure they meet all corresponding specifications. After concrete is produced at the ready-mix plant, quality control testing will be performed by testing the concrete temperature, slump, unit weight, air content and yield to ensure it meets the project specifications and/or customer needs. Communicate test results to Operations, Dispatch, and Engineering Service’s staff. Assist in solving issues of quality, placement techniques and finishing. Complete and submit all DOT paperwork necessary as required. Based on customer demands, between April and November, may work 8-12 hours per day along with two or more Saturdays a month and occasionally at night.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The basic responsibilities of the Plant Technician includes, but not limited to the following.
- Calibrate production equipment
- Sample and test raw materials for specification compliance
- Perform QC tests such as temperature, slump, unit weight, air content, set time, water/cement ratio and casting strength specimens
- Use test results to make chemical admixture adjustments
- Record and report test results to your supervisor, batch personnel, dispatch and the customer
- Required to keep a “daily journal” and fill out “Cemstone sample reports” for each sample taken
- Responsible for maintaining your own testing equipment, including cleaning and proper calibration
- Keep accurate records of company mileage to be submitted for reimbursement

- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be proficient with computers, smart phones, data entry and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to discuss technical and logistical aspects of concrete quality, production and delivery
- ACI Field 1, MnDOT Aggregate 1 and MnDOT Plant 1 certifications preferred
