POSITION/PURPOSE:
The Summit at Birmingham is looking for an experienced Marketing Director who has a passion for retail, creating & executing marketing strategies, and managing all onsite property events. The Director should be equally proficient with digital marketing and social media, day-to-day marketing activities and long-term strategizing, as well as strive under tight deadlines to meet the property’s changing needs.
The Marketing Director provides the planning and leadership for the assigned center(s) by ensuring that the appropriate structures, systems, competencies, and values are developed to drive traffic/sales and Net Operating Income (NOI) growth. The position is responsible for the day-to-day Consumer Marketing of the field property assigned to ensure awareness of store mix, drive retailer traffic / sales, and build customer affinity for the property, working closely with, and indirectly reporting to the Corporate Marketing Team for corporate strategies and programs.
PRINCIPAL JOB ACTIVITIES:
- Responsible for supporting and activating all consumer promotional concepts, services, and marketing programs.
- Work with General Manager and Corporate Marketing to create budget and strategic local marketing plans that align with overall marketing objectives. Manage spending within established budget parameters and timelines in conjunction with property management and Corporate Marketing.
- Develop and execute annual event plans reflective of the property positioning and conducive to the needs of the local market, while driving tenant sales performance and positioning the center as a destination for entertainment. Work with merchants to gain participation in events and notify them of all upcoming events and any special instructions for the day of the event. Photograph and document property events and all corresponding follow up.
- Create, curate, and manage all published digital content (images, video, written), including updates to the property website, weekly email blasts, and posting to the property’s social media channels. Create relevant, original, high-quality content. Increase consumer interaction within digital mediums to drive property visit frequency and retailer sales growth. Become an advocate for the property in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate. Responsible for updating property digital content on website and social media sites assuring accuracy and value to the customer.
- Protect and build the Centennial brand by supporting and ensuring adherence to brand guidelines and visual merchandise standouts including monitoring common areas to ensure visual consumer messaging standards are met.
- Develop center directories, maintain window displays and center decor.
- Support with maintaining, updating, and distributing property retailer and marketing promotional materials.
- Assist with analysis and follow-up of special events and marketing programs in a professional and timely manner to measure results. Evaluate the effectiveness of key marketing activities in terms of sales results, consumer response, tenant success, and community support. Communicate performance results to ownership and Corporate.
- Develop individual and organizational consumer and business contacts within the community to build property’s local relationship and growth within market, these relationships reflect
- ownerships commitment to the communities we serve while building sales performance of the center.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to support sales-oriented programs and initiatives.
- Establish strong tenant communication and partnerships, review stores current marketing approach, and create collaborative marketing efforts to ensure retailer and property success. Provide regular interaction with retailers including monthly newsletters and retailer meetings.
- Work with General Manager and Corporate Marketing to create effective marketing initiatives and tools to support retailer partners and achieve sales goals.
- Work in a collaborative and supportive manner with all divisions of the organization to achieve set goals that drive sales.
- Handle day to day administrative functions of the marketing department, including correspondence, proper maintenance of files, license agreements, monthly and quarterly reports.
- Measure marketing effectiveness and results through reporting, research programs, and analytical tools.
- Manage relationships with the community to develop strong alliances, loyalty, and engagement through media/public relations and strategic partnerships.
- Work in partnership with Local Leasing & Business Development to source Sponsorship/Partnership Marketing opportunities.
- Serve as a mentor to incoming Marketing Managers / Directors within the portfolio as directed by Corporate Marketing.
- Lead, create, and/or participate in national initiatives with company-wide impact.
- Work on all other duties and special projects as requested.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of industry, marketing or related digital experience preferred
- A passion for being part of retail reinvention and evolution
- Must be a creative, strategic and analytical thinker
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly dynamic work environment
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work and learn independently and in a team situation
- Ability to be a self-starter to deal with multiple projects and tasks effectively and establish priorities
- Experience in managing digital/social media platforms
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow through
- Excellent people skills along with problem solving and time management ability
- Must possess the ability to manage budgets and have solid accounting skills
- Understanding of PR strategy and execution
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Canva
- Ability to read and understand standard business documentation (e.g. contract language).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is required to rotate weekend duty assignment with the mall management staff and will be required to work a variety of shifts from time to time and is required to support emergency response needs 24 hours per day/7 days per week, preferably with a response time under 30 minutes. The requirement in the preceding sentence will not apply if the position is on; approved paid time off, approved leave or another position is approved by the GM for a specific period of time to handle ‘on call’ responsibilities.
