TITLE: Technology Support Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Instructional Technology & Distance Learning LENGTH OF CONTRACT OR WORK YEAR: 12 months
SUMMARY: The technology support specialist is responsible for evaluating technology issues to determine the proper diagnosis. This position supports staff members’ technological needs through consultation, installation, user assistance, and training.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides assistance in the installation, maintenance, upgrading and repair of all technology hardware, software, and networks in the district.
- Installs and maintains all network cabling and related components.
- Participates in training opportunities that provide enhanced technical support.
- Onsite support technology during benchmark and testing window.
- Provides assistance in training and supporting staff in the use of software and hardware.
- Assists in evaluating existing hardware and software and recommending improvements.
- Assists in providing network support for schools.
- Assists in the ongoing implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the district’s and schools’ technology plans.
- Provides assistance in tracking inventory of computers and other technological devices.
- Assists in running network wiring in classrooms and offices.
- Assists in correcting copier and printer issues.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or higher in a field related to computer technology systems or equivalent combination of education and experience in troubleshooting computer software and hardware problems and supporting users in a network environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with co-workers.
- Good organizational and problem solving skills. Self-directed individual who can determine work assignments based on an understanding of established practices.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year’s experience in supporting hardware and software in an educational environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Environment: Standard office and school setting; moderate travel; exposure to potentially stressful environments; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Physical: Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate lifting up to 25 pounds; regularly required to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; may require climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
