Job Title: Network Specialist
Reports To: Technology Director
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
Performs a variety of duties involving the analysis, evaluation and formulation of methods and designs for the development and implementation of operations and procedures through the use of Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Networks (LAN), and microcomputer systems under the direction of the Technology Director. Monitors the district’s network to ensure consistent availability, reliability and performs maintenance on servers, routers, switches and other equipment, as necessary.
BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Basic duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists with the creation, evaluation, modification and implementation of network configurations to increase network efficiency consistent with server, WAN and LAN requirements and equipment configurations and application solutions.- Assists with administration of the server hardware, network operating system and storage area network (SAN).
- Assists with installation and support of server-based applications systems.
- Assists with the installation and administration of the network infrastructure (e.g. Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, filtering devices, wireless controllers, access points and VPN).
- Monitors the network for viruses, malware, or threats of any kind.
- Performs backup of network systems, district websites and data.
- Provides on-going system maintenance and system pilot testing, as needed.
- Performs analysis and resolvse network-based application problems and implements solutions/changes using scripting methodologies.
- Participates with technology dept team in recommending, creating and maintaining district-wide technology systems and standards to support the district’s mission.
- Works cooperatively with technology dept staff in providing problem-solving for users’ technology needs.
- Attends in-services, trainings, and staff meetings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Education: Four Year Degree in Computer Science or High School diploma and four or more years of responsible server installation, integration and management, followed by at least one year of practical server management experience under the supervision of an experience network engineer or equivalent.
- Experience: Experience working with a variety of microcomputer software, hardware and peripherals, including MS-DOS, MAC, LINUX and Windows platforms. Hardware components of a LAN/WAN – intelligent hubs, switches, bridges, ulti-protocol routers, communication gateways, and media converters. Advanced training experience in the use of technology is also required.

- Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from students. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in various situations. Ability to read, interpret and comprehend a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze problems and make corrections in complex and high pressure situations.
- Computer Skills: Network management platforms and analysis techniques. Windows network operating systems or all Windows OS in the last seven years. Firewall system programming and best practices including CISCO PIX operating system. Fiber optic multiplexing and advanced communications connectivity. Virus detection and proactive prevention techniques. Domain Name Systems programming and maintenance, TCP/IP networking, and applications server design and maintenance.
- Ability to train others in the use and support of the WAN/LAN. Experience with Multiple Local Area Networking topologies including: Ethernet over fiber optics, Ethernet 100BaseT, Ethernet 1000Bat T, switched Ethernet environments, MS Active Directory managing multiple enterprise server deployments remotely.

- Must have a valid driver license and safe driving record. Receive bloodborne pathogen training, child abuse, sexual conduct and any other District required training. ODE Fingerprint/Background clearance required.
- Other: Must possess a personal vehicle to travel within the District and other sites/locations as necessary.
