REPORTS TO: Division Leader/Vice Principal/Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The District 155 Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere conducive to learning that guides students to attain their full academic potential and where the district’s mission statement can become a reality for the student population.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Illinois Certification (PEL or CTE)
- Ability to work cooperatively with all stakeholders
- Ability and desire to create and carry through effective programs
EXPECTATIONS:
Design and Planning:
- Demonstrate the requisite knowledge of the subject matter and its relevance to students
- Identify and articulate rigorous learning targets for their students that align with the current curriculum
- Integrate resources effectively such as texts and technology into their lessons
- Demonstrate an awareness of the student's level of skill, background knowledge, learning styles, and special needs
- Differentiate lessons and assessments to meet student needs
Learning Environment:
- Create a positive learning environment of mutual respect and trust, conducive to goal setting and taking risks
- Display a positive attitude, employing a variety of motivational techniques to ensure that learning is equitable and accessible for all students
- Enforce rules consistently that are fair and clear, acknowledging positive behavior and appropriately disciplining unacceptable behavior
- Communicate effectively with support personnel so that learning may take place in the classroom
Instructional Delivery:
- Deliver instruction effectively to students, providing examples to reinforce learning
- Provide students with a rigorous and relevant curriculum
- Differentiate instruction in the classroom, recognizing students’ individual differences
- Ask higher-level thinking questions to all students
- Engage students actively in the content
- Possess the ability to be flexible and responsive to student needs
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies to support instruction
Assessment:
- Design effective assessment strategies and instruments that are appropriate for the course objectives
- Provide students with feedback on their learning
- Elicit student involvement in the assessment process ensuring a higher level of student awareness
- Modify and adjust instruction as a result of assessment results
- Provide students with the opportunity to self-assess
- Use both formative and summative assessments purposefully and effectively
Professionalism:
- Maintain open and professional communications with students, parents, & colleagues
- Meet established deadlines and complete tasks in a positive manner
- Contribute to the overall school operation in a manner that reflects positively on the district
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see, hear, and type on a computer or device. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, use stairs, or crouch. In addition, the employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
