Senior Systems Administrator (Unix)
Purpose
Working within the Service Assurance team and part of Operations, the Senior Systems Administrator (Unix) addresses escalated customer (internal and external) support requests. Additionally, he or she completes projects in environment planning and implementation for servers, networking, virtualization, and security services to support co-location and managed services customers. Work includes participation in a team on-call rotation for 24x7 support. The technical team is an immediate point of escalation for the Operations Center Technicians, and it provides mentoring for the Operations Center. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for:
Providing up to and including 3rd level ticket support to resolve problems on internal and customer systems, including on-call support
Communicating with the technical team and customers, in a timely and effective manner
Participating in change management procedures
Installing servers and configuring hardware, applications, services and storage in accordance with best practices and project/operational requirements
Installing new software releases, evaluating and installing patches
Creating and maintaining install and configure procedures, Operations Manual and online customer information
Completing additional projects as required
Reporting to the Service Assurance Manager, this position is based in one of our GTA, Ontario offices.
Required Experience and Skills
IT Diploma from recognized technical institution or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience with administering Red Hat and CentOS Linux in an enterprise or service provider environment
Strong networking and internet technology knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, firewall and load balancing concepts)
Proven experience with LAMP stack – Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP or equivalent web server and database applications
Shell and Perl scripting and script debugging skills
Strong knowledge and experience with VMWare ESXi, VSphere
Storage administration experience, SAN / NAS technologies
Experience with infrastructure automation tools
Knowledge of security concepts and best practices, vulnerability and patch management processes
Experience in the hosting industry and data center operations
Desirable Skills
RHCE or RHCT Certifications
Experience with Windows Server and related Microsoft technologies
Experience with Cloud platforms: Azure, Oracle, AWS
Experience with data protection platforms, Commvault
