SUMMARY
The Summer Youth Program Director oversees the daily operations at one of the assigned summer youth program sites.
Douglas Summer Youth Program:
Held at Douglass Community Center, each week their daily activities are led according to the themes and will include games, crafts, playtime at the splash pad and more.
Leonhard Summer Youth Program:
Held at Leonhard Recreation Center, each week will include sports, arts, fitness outdoor activates, swimming, field trips and so much more.
Champaign Urbana Recreation Center CUSR) Summer Youth Program:
Held at the CUSR Center, participants will enjoy games, crafts sports, cooking, swimming, field trips, and more. CUSR Summer Programs offers a safe and structured environment to explore, expand, and enjoy. The program is open to any individual who has a disability. Goals of the program are for the participants to learn new skills, increase their independence, increase peer interaction, socialization, motor functioning and development and community awareness.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to plan and lead recreational activities for children at assigned age level
- Previous day camp leadership experience preferred
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the public

SUPERVISION
The Summer Youth Program Director reports directly to the Program Coordinator at that specific site. The Summer Youth Program Director is responsible for supervising leaders, assistant directors, and volunteers at their assigned campsite
TRAINING CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- CPR, First Aide, and AED training from American Heart Association or accredited agency
- Heads Up Concussion training from Center for Disease Control
- Harassment prevention training
- Anyone who will be driving a Champaign Park District vehicle must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Illinois drivers license, and will need to complete and pass a driving test, driver abstract, and drug test
- Mandated reporter certification
- Facility training
CLASSIFICATIONS
- Non-Exempt, hourly
- Seasonal position - May to August with a possibility of starting earlier
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
- Plan, organize and implement the day camp program and activities
- Train, supervise, discipline, and assist in evaluating day camp leaders, assistant directors, and day camp volunteers
- Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and the general public
- Maintain accurate budget for all day camp expenses
- Responsible for the purchase, maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies
- Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants
- Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with the Program Supervisor regarding all situations concerning the program, participants, and staff
- Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and parents
- Maintain records of program operations including participant files, incident/accident reports, attendance, and sign-out sheets
- Responsible for parent newsletters, weekly schedules, payroll, required reports, and requests
- Other duties as assigned

Salary : $27,900 - $35,300
