The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) seeks a full-time (40-hour week) Public Health Nurse I. The selected candidate will assist in controlling the spread of communicable diseases through the identification, tracking and notification of potential exposures and by reporting to the appropriate agencies. Duties include conducting epidemiological investigations in coordination with other public health programs on confirmed and suspected cases of communicable diseases, making referrals for testing and coordinating the treatment of communicable diseases for clients with various medical providers, gathering information for disease reporting, and facilitating specimen collection from clients. This candidate will maintain availability on a 24-7 schedule for consultation on communicable diseases deemed a possible emergency event. This candidate will also serve as a backup nurse in clinic when necessary and perform other duties as required.
Requirements for this position include an Associate’s Degree or diploma from an accredited school of nursing and a current and unrestricted RN license in the State of Illinois. A valid driver’s license, dependable transportation and proof of auto insurance are also required. Spanish-speaking candidates are highly desirable. The successful candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of the theory and practice of communicable disease control and working knowledge of surveillance, reporting requirements and treatments used in communicable disease control.

This is a full-time position and the starting annual salary is $53,872 for a 40-hour week. Those who are fluent in the Spanish language will be eligible to receive an additional $2.00 per hour stipend for translation abilities.
