What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Laborer position at Chandler Concrete Company?
Chandler Concrete Co., Inc. is currently seeking to immediately hire a Block Plant Worker at our Roanoke, VA facility. This position will be responsible for the tumbling process of quality (weathered-tumbled) landscape units and operation of block machine in the most safe and efficient manner possible.
Essential Job Duties/Functions
- Work closely with shipping department to schedule tumbling of landscape units as needed.
- Daily tumbling reports as required.
- Maintenance and up-keep of tumbling equipment.
- Keeping the tumbling area clean and safe.
- Monitor batch equipment to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Monitor and assure quality out of the machine: height, texture, moisture, etc.
- Repair and adjustment of block manufacturing equipment.
- Perform mold cleaning and proper installation.
- Rebuild mold boxes.
- Monitor and maintain pneumatic, hydraulic and water systems associated with block production.
- Keep production report records as required
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management employees.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience (Required = R; Preferred = P)
- HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with math calculations, including adding, subtracting, multiplication, etc.
- Mechanical experience preferred.
- Thoroughly trained to operate block production equipment.
- Stable work record, preferred, to include no more than 3 jobs in the past 5 years.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional/frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs.
- Occasional/ frequent climbing of steps.
- Occasional/frequent stooping, squatting, bending and kneeling.
- Occasional pushing and pulling.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to hear noises.
Environmental Conditions (Personal protective equipment is provided where required or requested)
- Majority of work is performed indoors
- Occasional exposure to weather to include extremes in heat, cold, dust and moisture for limited periods.
- Occasional/frequent exposure to rough, muddy and icy walking surface conditions.
- Frequent exposure to high noise levels and vibrations.
- Frequent exposure to moving parts/pieces of equipment.
- Frequent exposure to cement, concrete, admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or explosive if handled incorrectly.
- Frequent exposed to water and wet conditions.
