What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dir Culinary Services position at Chandler Hall?
Chandler Hall, a Quaker community and Kendal affiliate, provides high-quality care for older adults in Newtown, Bucks County. Chandler Hall offers a wide spectrum of services for individuals at all stages of the aging process including: Community Living, Personal Care, Residential Hospice, Home Hospice, Independent Living, Respite Care, and Skilled Nursing Care. We are always seeking individuals with a passion for working with the older population.
The Director of Culinary Services manages the daily operations for the Culinary services for Chandler Hall, while monitoring staff performance, resident and guest meal service, and compliance with departmental policies and corporate standards. Maintains the department budget with proper ordering, scheduling, and food production. Always maintains safe food practices and sanitation. Oversees all purchasing duties for the department including maintaining and monitoring the inventory items, ordering, restocking and preparation of all food.
Job Responsibilities:
Investigates and develops new programs and systems for the culinary department
Effectively complies with HAACP standards
Demonstrates a high level of teamwork at all levels
Maintains a high level of administrative, resident and guest relations satisfaction by being visible and accessible daily
Demonstrates understanding of diets and nutritional needs for Health Center residents
Ensures implementation of proper sanitation in accordance with Board of Health regulations
Ensures recruitment objectives for the department are being met
Motivates, develops and coaches all staff by meeting formally and informally with staff to listen, to get to know them and observe their performance. Provides staff coaching and counseling as needed, accurately documents all incidents/issues.
Develops supervisors to full potential with follow up of established goals and performance objectives
Assures workload and coverage is evenly distributed between direct reports in order to achieve the department’s objectives
Conducts ongoing internal quality assurance audits
Conducts and ensures completion of mandatory training for all culinary service staff
Maintains effective working relationships the rest of the Senior Management Team
Maintains overall responsibility for processing payroll, record keeping requirements, and developing and monitoring the budget for the Culinary Services Department.
Builds and maintains positive relationships with members of the Culinary Services resident Liaison Committee
Has thorough understanding of quality food preparation and serving techniques while working to provide continuous measurable improvement in resident meal satisfaction
Oversees events for catering and resident special functions
Actively participates in senior management team meetings
Leads by example in accordance with the Chandler Hall Values and Practices
Performs job duties in compliance with Chandler Hall policies and procedures, objectives and professional standards
Maintains confidentiality of resident and staff information
Documents staff issues as needed Hires, trains, coaches, and evaluates personnel; disciplines and implements corrective actions as necessary.
Takes actions which encourage a positive work environment
Assumes weekend/holiday Manager On-call responsibility as assigned
Assumes other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
Certified Dietary Manager Certification preferred
Management experience in food services
Healthcare experience for 3 years
Serve Safe Certified
