Job Summary
We are seeking an Animal Care / Husbandry Supervisor for our GEMS : Breed Department located in Wilmington, MA. The Animal Care / Husbandry Supervisor directs day-to-day operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Serves as a model to departmental subordinates by demonstrating the components of CRL DNA in day to day responsibilities.
Provides leadership and motivation to departmental personnel.
- Coordinates scheduling of activities of the department through hands-on technical support and delegation of responsibility / tasks to ensure quality and timeliness.
- Provides daily supervision and coaching of assigned departmental employees.
- Assists upper management with interviewing, hiring and, determining work and vacation schedules.
- Coordinates with oversight coaching / disciplining of employees, evaluating employee performance, developing goals and objectives for assigned employees.
- Reviews and approves timecards and overtime.
- Reviews training records for compliance. For noncompliant records, organizes the appropriate training to bring records up-to-date.
- Delegates with oversight the coordination of all procedures and protocol support activities to maximize the staff’s capabilities.
- Conducts routine 1 : 1 meetings to provide mentorship and support for all team members.
- With agenda oversight, conducts weekly team meetings with staff.
- Monitors work of assigned employees to ensure adherence to appropriate SOPs, employee health / safety and bio-security and animal welfare procedures.
- Ensures proper record-keeping within departmental systems (i.e., ICM).
- Reviews with oversight safety issues and Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Reviews complaints / issues of employees' performance. Creates and maintains complaint / issues chart. Follows up to ensure performance improvement.
- Conducts audits on staff performance and adherence to SOP / Policies on a routine schedule.
- Ensures that departmental equipment is maintained in good working condition and that departmental area(s) are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
- Participates in AAALAC / IACUC / Customer visits.
- Assists with the deployment of biosecurity, EH&S and Animal Welfare initiatives that facilitate and promote the adherence to imperatives.
- Assists with IACUC projects / studies to successful completion.
- Assists with develop and creation of training materials for procedures required for personnel within Operations.
- Assists with maintaining inventory for team and operations area.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) or equivalent in a technically related field (e.g. Biology) or related discipline.
- 4 years related experience working with animals and / or supervising employees.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Proficient in computers (IE : MS Office Suite).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- One (1) year experience in a Supervisor or Lead position.
- ALAT Certification.
The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
