The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and integrating enterprise technology systems at every stage of their lifecycle. The incumbent in this role, as a senior level member of the IT Systems Engineering team, is accountable for assigned systems and processes critical to the successful operation of enterprise IT, as well as guiding less experienced team members with their domain knowledge.

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and integrating enterprise technology systems at every stage of their lifecycle. The incumbent in this role, as a senior level member of the IT Systems Engineering team, is accountable for assigned systems and processes critical to the successful operation of enterprise IT, as well as guiding less experienced team members with their domain knowledge.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for planning, implementing, and supporting business integration applications and Electronic Data Interface (EDI) interfaces utilizing CorePoint or appropriate technologies and development tools.
- Plans, tests, implements, and monitors automated data processes and connections
- Validates and supports system testing efforts.
- Monitors error queues and resolves reported issues
- Identifies and completes daily application maintenance tasks.
- Mentors other Data Integration team members on technology, process, and communications
- Assists with the prioritization and assignment of work within the team
- Documents issues and solutions in the ITSM application, tracking issue status and work volume.
- Participates in the day-to-day tracking and follow-up on daily operations issues and questions.
- Works with external supplier integration teams and internal users and functional teams, as needed
- Escalates issues with vendors or suppliers, as needed, and monitors vendor tickets for resolution.
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
- Stays current on EDI industry trends, including security, design patterns, and best practices
- Ensures data security through advanced knowledge of audit logging, security protocols, and VPN usage.
- Assures that integration technologies are built and maintained in a highly available manner
- Reviews vendor interface specifications and develops custom HL7 derivatives
- Documents interface and integration points between applications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- 3 years of experience building, maintaining and supporting HL7 interfaces utilizing the Corepoint integration engine or similar product.
- Extensive knowledge of HL7 standards
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to communicate resolutions to internal users and customers.
- Extensive technical knowledge and familiarity with EDI and communication technologies and tools
- Advanced knowledge of EDI standards, including HL7, X12
- Conceptual understanding of data structures within Electronic Health Records (EHR) and related applications
- Working knowledge of Cloud infrastructure, including a basic understanding of infrastructure provisioning, automation, and support in a cloud environment
- Working knowledge of modern application integration techniques, including SOAP and REST APIs, file transfer design patterns, and database integration
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including VPN tunnels, IP access lists, and related technologies involved in setting up integrations.
- Extensive knowledge of the field's standard and best practice concepts, policies, and procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Proven success in a dynamic environment that balances both production support and project activities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related IT fields OR additional experience above the minimum will be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis required
- A minimum of 6 years' experience providing technical support in a corporate environment, working within a dedicated, multi-tier technical team required
- A minimum of 4 years' experience managing and monitoring systems in an enterprise environment required
- At least 1 professional level certification (MCSA, LFCS, etc.) or higher preferred
- Experience using a service desk platform (ITSM or trouble ticket system)
