SUMMARY
The Writer/Editor is responsible for planning and implementing a document draft, review and revision cycles for multiple concurrent projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following:
- Plan and implement document draft, review and revision cycles for multiple concurrent projects.
- Collaborate with research scientists to develop data presentation approaches for specific manuscripts.
- Develop clinical study protocols and protocol amendments.
- Edit contributed or solicited article manuscripts, write additional information or rewrite portions of the manuscript, ensuring that it reflects logical, sequential organization, contains correct grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation and conforms to publication style and format, but retaining, to the maximum degree possible, the author's unique writing style and methods of expression.
- Review/edit scientific documents for content/language.
- Communicate regularly with collaborating scientists.
- Writing assignments often involve departures from commonly accepted theories or methods in the subject matter field and require substantial analysis to present convincing evidence of new findings or to present accurate and critical information.
- Prepare for publication written materials that explain and interpret complex scientific research.
- Establish and maintain complete project management file for each writing or editing assignment.
- Research, write, and apply for grants and grant opportunities.
- Prepare of grant proposals for the consideration of federal agencies.
- Be resourceful and inventive in obtaining needed material for proposals and other work.
- Work closely with management and program directors to prepare grant proposals, including budgets.
- Develop and maintain relationships with grantors and acts as a liaison in order to receive the most possible benefits from programs and grants.
- Coordinate and manage an up-to-date database of Requests for proposals/applications content, due dates, presentations and proposal delivery.
- Keep accurate record of grants applied for, received, and or denied in a weekly status report.
- Track proposals through the applicable grant system.
- Coordinate and submit grant progress and final reports.
- Plan, write, and edit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as abstracts, posters, book chapters, and scientific presentations, clinical and scientific protocols.
- Read and study current literature on relevant subjects. Participate in producing scientific publications to be available in the open literature.
- May perform other job related duties as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENC
- Bachelors Degree in Communications and/or English
- Minimum three (3) years of writing or other relevant experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Skill in designing, writing, and editing complex grant documents.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities successfully.
- Demonstrated successful record of accomplishment of funded proposals and knowledge of governmental grant/contract regulations.
- Strong communication skills, research skills and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Expertise in medical/scientific writing and editing.
- Knowledge of publishing concepts, practices, standards and technologies for the media used.
- Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and background investigation
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is primarily performed in a climate controlled office setting. Location is Falls Church, VA. Hybrid.
Cherokee Federal has suspended it’s COVID mandate.
