Job Summary

This senior level position performs geosteering operations on all assigned wells, under limited supervision in order to recommend best applications for success.


Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Models offset data to determine the feasibility of geosteering within reservoirs within given geological / physical constraints and to recommend best applications for success
  • Monitors real-time data, provides real-time interpretation and executes directional decisions to ensure proper placement of the borehole within a specific target
  • Analyzes data from gamma, offsetting wells, structure maps, seismic and mud logs to make educated steering decisions
  • Implements target lines, congruent with geology, drilling and production best practices
  • Reviews and analyzes geological and targeting information provided by geologists and other sources
  • Recognizes errors and seeks to make adjustments in practices to reduce error count
  • Maintains updated geologic interpretations for all wells assigned
  • Maintains open and frequent communication with rig line geologists, engineers, field personnel, and drilling analysts keeping them appraised of the status of their wells
  • Generates Cplot reports and other deliverables according to protocols with minimal errors
  • Prepares status reports, formation updates, target line changes, and End of Well reports
  • Enters statistical data into a geosteering database
  • Focuses on continuous improvement, quality control, and work efficiency to reduce errors and improve processes/protocols
  • Shares discoveries, tips and tricks, and workflow enhancements to improve team efficiency
  • Recognized as either a technical expert in district/division or group
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Specific Skills

  • Advanced working knowledge of mudlogging operations, basic logging tools, and measurements
  • Advanced working knowledge of gamma, offsetting wells, structure maps, seismic, and mud logs to make educated steering decisions
  • Advanced working knowledge of horizontal drilling, directional surveys, and geosteering concepts
  • Advanced working knowledge of geological concepts, and is able to recognize faults and geohazards
  • Understands drilling parameters on WITS feed and how it affects drilling and geosteering. DLS and Toolface awareness
  • Understands and uses drilling operations vocabulary
  • Mastery of district lithology and issues/preferences associated with each formation
  • Advanced, in-depth knowledge of geosteering software and is able to create accurate and visually appealing correlations
  • Ability to steer several wells at a time as well as complete project work
  • Advanced knowledge of field operations hierarchy, and possesses strong communication skills in order to communicate with field operations personnel
  • Ability to adapt to software changes and is motivated to learn
  • Advanced attention to detail to produce quality work product
  • Ability to work irregular hours

Education

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree - from accredited university - Geology

Experience

  • Minimum: 5 - 8 years related work experience
