PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for following the Nutrition Policy and all related procedures.
- Order/purchase food for center meals and snacks.
- Prepare all the meals as per schedule.
- Responsible for assuring proper food temperatures.
- Meet and maintain all health and safety inspections in the kitchen.
- Responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing of the food prep area.
- Responsible for the daily log of meals served and other records as required by the nutrition component.
- Responsible for kitchen equipment inventory.
- Responsible for assisting with nutrition activities in the classroom.
- Must interact with parents and children as needed.
- Responsible for ordering classroom nutrition supplies.
- Ability to plan and substitute foods as circumstances arise.
- Maintain list of special dietary needs.
- Plan and prepare for special dietary needs.
- Must, in conjunction with the Nutrition Specialist, be able to offer a variety of foods, taking cultural and ethnic backgrounds into consideration.
- Responsible for inspection of kitchen equipment, and reporting of maintenance needs.
- Must provide accurate and timely documentation, daily.
- Attends all training opportunities and all staff and parent meetings provided and scheduled.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

- Adheres to all program and funding regulations, as well as agency and program policies and procedures and written service plans.
- Will abide by the Confidentiality Statement and the Core Values of the program
- Performs other duties as assigned and which are deemed necessary or desirable by the program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- Education/Background:
- High School or GED
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; or Child Development Associate (CDA) or New Mexico Child Development Certificate or willing to work towards requirements within a specific timeframe identified by the program.
- Minimum of 1-2-years' experience cooking for young children and/or others in a group setting or early childhood/public school setting.
- First Aid/CPR Certified and Food Handler's Certification or willing to obtain within the first 6-months of employment is required.
- Health Determination/TB Skin Test and Fingerprint Background Check prior to employment
- Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) is preferred
Driver's License/Proof of Insurance (Preferred): Maintain a current New Mexico driver's license, an insurable driving record, and provide proof of current liability insurance meeting or exceeding State-required minimum coverages is preferred for this position.
