What are the responsibilities and job description for the ECEAP Bus Driver position at Child Care Action Council?

The job of the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) Bus Driver is done for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in a safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of passengers during transport, loading, and unloading from buses.
Duties
Responsibilities of this position:
- Operate assigned school buses and/or vans for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes and to/from school, center events and/or field trips in a safe, legal, and timely manner.
- Develop bus routes for the purpose of ensuring that program objectives are achieved.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections using approved procedures (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and meeting state requirements.
- Assist students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations (including bus evacuations) and normal transport.
- Comply with program safety rules for the purpose of ensuring safe transportation of passengers.
- Inform school personnel, parents, etc. of practices and incidents (e.g., rules, regulations, laws, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing information for follow-up action and/or proper procedures.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior (e.g., cleaning, checking fluid levels, restraints, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle
- Maintain files and/or records (e.g., route schedule, program records, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring an up-to-date audit trail for compliance.
- Prepare documentation (e.g., incident reports, inspections, passenger misconduct, mileage, daily logs, emergency forms, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Arrange for needed repairs and maintenance of bus for the purpose of keeping vehicle in good working order.
- Assess bus vests and camwraps for the purpose of ensuring safe operating condition.
- Report incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
- Reads, understands, and follows all motor vehicles laws of the State of Washington and Washington State Laws for School Bus Drivers for the purpose of adhering to applicable laws and/or regulations.
- Interact with children, families, and co-workers in a positive manner.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· A valid Washington State driver’s license.
Position Requirements:
· A CDL with S endorsement prior to transporting children (paid training provided if needed).
· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and meet all health, immunization, and training requirements per federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
· A DCYF Portable Background Check.
· Proof of a recent negative TB test.
· Infant/Child CPR/First Aid certification.
· Participation in assigned initial and on-going professional development.
Other things to know:
· This position works 7.5 hours/day (M-Th) x 140/days (including paid holidays), September – June, with occasional additional hours as scheduled.
· A $1.00/hr wage enhancement will be added to the pay rate for the regular use of Spanish in this position, with an additional $.50 /hr for the regular use of a third language.
· We require a COVID-19 vaccination or CCAC-approved exemption.
