Bonita Head Start, 1201 E 16th St, Douglas, AZ 85607, 1 opening, 5 hours per day, M-F, Approx. 2:30pm - 7:30pm from July thru mid-June

Job Summary:
Child-Parent Centers is looking for a custodian to join our team. The ideal candidate for this position has previous experience cleaning licensed childcare facilities where sanitation and safety regulations must be met. The custodian is responsible for cleaning the interior and exterior spaces of the building including classrooms, restrooms, offices, walkways, playground spaces for outdoor play time, and related storage areas. The custodian also conducts light yard work such as pulling or spraying weeds, minor trimming of bushes, or where applicable mowing or trimming grass. The custodian must identify and remove any hazardous items from the playground prior to children's use each day. The custodian takes out and returns non-permanent playground equipment and materials as necessary. The custodian is responsible for managing and maintaining appropriate janitorial supplies: filling dispensers, organizing storage areas, tracking of supply levels, and preparing and submitting orders to the supervisor for approval. This position requires effective communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a time sensitive environment. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the custodian position is an entry-level position funded to work 5 hours per day Monday through Friday. Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Prior experience providing custodial services, using a cleaning chemical system, and/or completing light yard work and clean up.
- Submit a current AZ Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to start date.

Other Requirements (post hire)
- Must be able to travel to and from various sites as needed.
- Provide proof of immunizations: COVID19 vaccination, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Tdap (adult Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis), and a clear Tuberculosis skin test or chest X-ray.
- Able to pass a company paid physical exam prior to starting work.
- Able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must be able to prove the right to work in the USA by providing appropriate documents to complete the Federal I-9 form.
- Must possess or have the ability to possess and keep current certification in First Aid Training/CPR training including Infants and Children.
- Must possess or have the ability to possess and keep current a Food Handler’s Certificate issued by the Arizona health department
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand Spanish.
- Three (3) year’s experience cleaning a licensed childcare facility.
- Three (3) year’s experience working with Child-Parent Centers or other Head Start grantee or delegate agency.
Work Environment:
- Indoor and Outdoor including extreme outdoor temperatures at peak times of the day (exceeds 85 degrees or below 32 degrees)

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Custodial Responsibilities:
- Cleans classroom(s), kitchen, restrooms, and office facilities to insure that they are free of dirt, odors, insects, and vermin. Cleans and inspects playgrounds to insure that they are free of dangerous objects, debris, and weeds. Completes according to Center Cleaning Checklists.
- Notifies supervisor of maintenance needs and/or safety hazards related to all areas of the center. Calls Work Request system as requested.
- Moves and stores classroom furniture when required by center needs; assist teaching staff with classroom breakdown and setup.
- Prepares supply requests and submits to supervisor to order necessary cleaning supplies. Stores hazardous or dangerous items in a locked storage area that is inaccessible to children.
- Organizes storage areas to ensure accurate inventory of cleaning supplies and materials.
- Takes out scheduled playground equipment before outdoor playtime begins and stores after outdoor playtime is completed.
- Ensures soft surfacing is maintained in required areas including raking Fibar or sand on a daily basis to maintain a minimum of 6” depth under swings or climbing structures.
- Waters down hot surfaces when season requires it, including water of sand area for child play.
- Ensures drinking water is available and accessible to children during outdoor playtime.
- Uses caution tape to designate unsafe areas to ensure children are not allowed in the area.
- Has an active role in closedown cleaning process.
- Ensures facility is secured at the end of the day.
- Where applicable communicates with custodian or custodian/driver to minimize duplicate ordering, reporting, or cleaning.
Supervision:
- Identify self-growth, development goals, and strategies for achievement with support and input from supervisor.
- Commit and participate in consistent and planned meetings with supervisor to further professional growth by seeking feedback, reflecting on and assessing own practice, and taking advantage of opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
Record-keeping, Monitoring and Reporting:
- Prepare and submit janitorial supplies order forms to supervisor and/or Procurement as assigned
- Assist in the receipt of supply orders and storing in designated areas.

- Actively participate on the center team and contribute to the decision making process for compliance, strategic initiatives, professional development, budget, governance, and agency self-assessment
- Train and support volunteers, substitutes and center staff with cleaning procedures, routines, and the proper use of equipment.
