Position Summary :

Children’s Aid (CA) summer camp programs operate Monday through Friday, from 8 : 00am to 6 : 00pm. Schedules will vary depending on the site and age of campers.
During program hours, Summer Group Leaders will co-lead students in academic enrichment and social emotional learning activities.
The Summer Group Leaders are responsible for the supervision of up to 20 children in either elementary or middle school.
The Group Leaders, along with co-facilitators, are expected to teach by modeling and demonstrate characteristics from which participants can learn.
It is essential that candidates applying for this position enjoy being around school age children, respect them as people, and seek to include them in fun learning activities.
The Group Leaders are expected to be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children.
Group leaders work to ensure that children have a fun, engaging and safe summer. Group Leaders are considered mandated reporters.
Essential Duties :
- Supervise and lead children attending Children’s Aid run summer programs and ensure their safety throughout the summer.
- Implement professionally developed curriculum; Engage students in a wide range of learning activities.
- Develop lesson plans and curriculum informed by the program schedule, programmatic themes, objectives and outcomes.
- Plan, lead (or co-lead) a variety of activities such as, but not limited to, SEL, literacy and recreation.
- Participate in special events and supervise children in program and on field trips.
- Create a comfortable engaging learning environment and establish clear age appropriate expectations.
- Develop relationships with children and their families and maintain open communication with families regarding children’s progress and any concerns
- Assist in the designing, planning and leading of projects and activities both in and outside of the classroom.
- Communicate regularly with data entry staff, the Program Director, and other staff as needed.
- Document student attendance and progress
- Attend staff meetings. Participate in staff development opportunities and attend mandatory trainings.
- Collaborate with other staff members in the Program, School, or Center, to create and maintain a nurturing and engaging environment
- Implement behavior management strategies to ensure a safe and positive environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Must be 18 years old. High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
- At least one-year experience working with children tutoring or teaching is highly preferred
Key Competencies
- Work well in teams and in collaboration with other organizations and entities
- Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques and classroom management strategies
- Understanding of Youth Development Principles and the ability to educate children in an engaging, age appropriate manner
- Well organized with strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Bilingual preferred (English / Spanish, oral and written)
- Available all weeks of camp during July and August
